There are no decent motels/hotels in the Elmira/Corning area of New York that have rooms at a reasonable or affordable rate. Most of the places want triple digits per night for a room. The Best Western is a little cheaper than some of the other places, and with a AAA discount it's even less expensive by a few dollars. The price was still more than I like to pay for a night's stay but there weren't a whole lot of choices.
The room itself was very nice. It appears to have been recently remodeled and the paint, carpet, etc. looks fresh. I arrived on an unseasonably warm late summer/early fall day (temps near 90) so it took a little while for the AC unit to cool the room down, but it eventually got comfortable.
When I checked into my room, I found it did not have a refrigerator but the front desk clerk said I could either move next door or they would bring a refrigerator later. i opted to move and they moved me without fuss or complaint. Excellent service. Wi-fi worked fine and I was able to park right outside my room.
Only two complaints, really, and only one of them is the hotel's fault. There isn't a lot of water pressure in the shower but that happens frequently in motels. The other was bugs -- not bed bugs, but some kind of clear or white gnats that were attracted to lights. i got attacked by them down the street when I filled up with gas after dark, and I made the mistake of leaving my door open as I brought stuff in from out of my vehicle. This let the little buggers in my room, but they gravitated to the fluorescent lights in the bathroom and I was told these bugs are a common nuisance in this part of the country at this time of the year.
The location isn't the most convenient in the world, it's a few miles north of town off the interstate and away from restaurants, shopping, etc., but it's probably handy when NASCAR comes to Watkins Glen since it's only a few miles from the track.
The place deserves its AAA rating. I hated to pay the amount I did for a two-night stay, but I didn't have a whole lot of options in the area and for the money, the place was a decent investment. I'd probably stay here again if I'm back in the area.
