I had heard a lot of good things about Microtel's recently and decided to give this one a try while my wife and I drove around the Finger Lakes for a couple days. While the exterior of the hotel seems nice and welcoming, the inside leaves a little to be desired. The lobby is very small as are the rooms, but it is a "Micro"tel so that is to be expected. Unfortunately, the rooms seem to be dated and in need of some refurbishing. I found numerous quirky things about the room and the hotel in general. We stayed for two nights although did not sleep either night very well. The a/c kept kicking on and off no matter what it was set on all night and it was loud enough that you could not hear the television mounted on wall across the room. If you turn the television up loud enough to hear over the a/c unit you have to turn it down when the a/c kicks off. You could hear television from other rooms(assumed it was because of the same reason)The door to our room stuck, so you almost have to slam it and ours must not have been the only one like that as we heard doors slamming both days. Oddly, the only ice machine was upstairs in a second lobby that was very run down and smelled horrible. The worst thing we experienced during our stay though was the customer service or lack there of. I waited at an empty desk to check in for about 2 minutes and was barely greeted upon the desk clerks return. I passed the desk 6 or 7 other times during our stay and never even was spoken to. I passed at least 3 housekeepers and no one said hello. We went down to breakfast the first morning passing the desk clerk yet again and nothing was said. While no one at the hotel was outwardly rude, I figure I passed an employee at least 12 times throughout my stay and never once even was welcomed with a simple hello. Overall the bed was ok, the rooms were clean, the room and public areas were dated, and the people were not very hospitable. The longer I stayed, the more I disliked the experience. Sorry, but true. An odd little note: I am not sure if Microtel does not mandate shampoo or conditioner, but why would a room have a hairdryer but no shampoo or conditioner? Makes no sense and even the mom and pop motels leave shampoo now.
