“The Perfect Way to Start A life Togeter”

Cedar Hill Farm Bed and Breakfast far exceeded our expectations! We have stayed in many hotels and B & B's. This one tops them all.

There are three rooms available. I snuck a peek at all of them They are all very sophisticately decorated, but at the same time comfortable and homey. Our room was a magestic red. We had beautiful antiques placed throughout. The rooms were clean and had great little additions in them like a dvd player, toiletries purchased locally ( I fell in love with the Green Tea and Lime shampoo and conditioner!), his and hers bathrobes and more.

But by far the highlight of the B and B are the owners Jennifer and John. They made you feel like you were visiting friends. Upon our arrival, they had a fire going on outdoors for us. Jennifer immediately dawned us with wine and homemade chocolate chip cookies. An added bonus is that Jennifer is a trained culinary Chef from the CIA. Her carefully prepared breakfasts are out of this world!

We celebrated a very special occassion at the B and B. We actually got engaged. It was a surprise that Jennifer and John were in on the entire time. My fiance says that they helped tremendously. While we were on a hike, unbeknownst to myself, they were carefully preparing the room for our engagement surprise. When I arrived, there were rose petals dawning the stairs. And when we opened the room, there were flowers all over the place, including sunflowers, which are my favorite and probably pretty hard to find this time of year. The room also had candles, champagne, strawberries and rose petals all over. It was so romantic.

Later I found out that my fiance contacted the owners in advanced, but gave them less then a week to prepare. And even on Mother's Day weekend they were able to find the most beautiful floral arrangements. Jennifer and John really went above and beyond to make this weekend special.

Cedar Farm B and B is a place we will go again and again. For anyone who stays there, whether it's a special occassion or not, Jennifer and John will give you an experience you will never forget.

“What a find!”

On a whim my fiance and I decided to stay in the Shawamgunk area for a weekend get-away. We called Cedar Hill from the road, the same night ,and had little to no expectations of something special. When we arrived we couldnt believe our luck! What an amazing find. I have traveled the world..I truly know five star...its a rarity in a B&B. This property is absolutely lovely, the home and rooms are immaculate and tastefully decorated. No dusty silly frilly Victorian stuff here! The beds, the linens, the views...all amazing. But what makes this place so special is the warm and friendly, and yet professional, hospitality of the owners. You feel like you are staying with friends. Even further, the food is wonderful....the owner/chef is a talented, modern cook...breakfast is divine! Fish in the stocked bass pond, hang out with the horses, just sit with a glass a wine and enjoy the views.....I never feel compelled to write reviews...but, you can't miss this little slice of heaven.

“Exactly What We Wanted”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2006

We were trying to book a room at Mohonk Mountain House because we needed a respite; nothing wired, and a place to hike and enjoy the peacefullness of the "gunks," the mountain range. Mohonk was booked, and by accident we stumbled on this relatively new gem.

We arrived at Cedar Hill Farm late, and were delighted to find a radiant, and curteous, yet non- intrusive hostess who waited up for us and gave us instructions for how to get coffee and anything else we needed in the morning, if we were up and about before the 8:30 serving time.

Our room was charming, and the mattress was excellent, a big deal for both of us with bad backs— good sheets and a good reading lamps next to each side of the bed. There was a small TV and DVD player in the armoire, but we never needed it. Two upholstered chairs made it easy to relax at the crack of dawn, at the window, facing the mountains and the pond and the horse track. Great scenery.

Jennifer is a gourmet cook and clearly LOVES what she is doing. Breakfast had so many delectible choices starting with homemade chocolate filled croissants (as good as France) and excellent coffee—all manner of artisanal breads, local specialty cheeses, plus meals for people with any allergy, and her star entry, the chocolate filled french toast had the other couples sooning. On the second morning, I requested a simpler dish, oatmeal, and received a bowl made with apple cider for the liquid and laced with sauteed apples, cranberries and nuts. Yum. Fresh squeezed orange juice to boot. All sorts of fragrant teas as well.

The place attracts a bright and well-mannerd, educated clientelle. Some serious hikers, some browsers, but all in all a homgenous group of strangers who all liked each other.

Every touch was well thought out and congenial— from the heavy goblets down to the linen napkins, flashlights to walk through the fields at night and a huge selection of movies to take to your room or watch in the common room with a roaring fire. There's the New York Times for each couple and Jennifer's personable husband, John, who clearly like the Innkeeper's business. Helpful suggestions for day trips, maps, passes to hiking areas at Mohonk and other places, and a most accomodating attitude give this charming, new, but old-style farmhouse and barn all the right touches. Culinary weekends are supposedly wonderful, but you need no excuse to enjoy it.

A few more places to rest one's toiletries in the bathroom would make things a bit easier in the morning, but all in all, this newcomer rates way up there on the "comfort and cuisine" level.

We'd definitely go back.

“Amazing Food!”

Cedar Hill Farms is lovely. The woman who runs it attended the Culinary Institute and you can tell! She has hens and roosters--which means fresh eggs. I ate the most wonderful omelette I've ever had. The rooms are clean and pretty with interesting and unexpected deorations; lots of fresh and fluffy towels and nicely scented soaps. The views are gorgeous. I totally recommend it.

“Superb views, tasty food and luxurious accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2006

This was truly one of the best BnBs that we have ever stayed in. We have traveled the world and stayed at almost all of the Relais and Chateau's in this area, and this is of a similar or higher standard!

Our first view of the property was through the website. However, the pictures on this do not do the place full justice. When we arrived, we entered a piece of paradise. The BnB has 20 acres of land (according to the owner, John) and has prime location with unobstructed views of the Shawagunk mountains and ridges. John did a fantastic job landscaping his property and you enter a serene place filled with gazebos, small lakes, and of course, the views.

The house itself, where you will stay, has a perfect choice of accommodation. From the warm and romantic bedroom with the sleigh bed, to the suite with its own private balcony, you are spoilt for choice. We took the latter and enjoyed the views, not just from our bedroom but also from the pretty deck. There are lovely little touches such as the bottles of San Pellegrino in ice buckets, through to cookies and home made ice tea in the afternoons as well as "his n hers" fluffy robes. This place feels like a 5 star inn and belongs in the luxury league of the Relais' of this world!

The quality of the food at breakfast time encouraged us to ask the CIA qualified chef/owner Jennifer to open her own restaurant! The choice of breakfast items, professionally presented on a printed menu, was impressive. Omelettes, fresh fruit, baked goods, etc, etc. The scrambled eggs that I had were smooth and cream, clearly the product of a highly skilled chef. Everything was perfect, including the orange juice which was freshly squeezed. Breakfast is served on the giant porch and you have the opportunity to enjoy both your eggs as well as the views as the morning sun rises..

Thank you Jennifer and John for creating a piece of heaven! We hope that many other travelers, like ourselves, will have the pleasure of your company and your home in the near future.
