We were the only guests on a weeknight in October. The owners greeted us on arrival and gave us a quick tour, along with some useful suggestions about local restaurants.
Our first floor room was a bit small, but clean and comfortable. Furnishings were eclectic: a queen-sized futon couch, old dresser, armoire, single contemporary chair. The bath had a large shower. We enjoyed a very quiet night, despite the in-town location.
Breakfast, served in the handsome dining room, was not complicated: a small cheese omelet and english muffin, banana bread, grapefruit. A number of large Teddy bears kept us company. The formal front rooms, set up as parlor or living room and a TV room, appeared to be equipped with period furniture (the classic village house dates from 1830) and decorated, or even filled, with the owners' extensive collections. Stuffed animals seem to stand out in my memory.
Rates when we stayed totalled around $100; moderate for the area.
In our experience, many B&Bs operated in notably well preserved older properties try to more clearly separate the owners' space and their personal stuff from the guest rooms and common areas. However, it was a pleasant, casual stay, and we would probably go back.
