We read mixed reviews online before making our reservation, but as we were having trouble finding a last-minute reservation anywhere else, we decided to take our chances, since some of the reviews said the Coliseum was clean. We were very disappointed with the decrepit condition of our beach-front, top-floor, 2-bed efficiency accommodations. There were no drapes or curtains on any of the windows, so with the temperature in the 90's everyday, hot rays of sun just kept pouring in through the cheap blinds, so the place didn't feel cosy. The carpet was thin, gray, and dirty-looking. There there were plenty of clean towels in the bathroom, but the maid had somehow managed to insert a filthy face cloth in the pile. Right away it was evident, the entire place was badly in need of serious renovation. When my boyfriend attempted to open the bathroom window, the handle came off in his hand. The bedside table was jammed tightly and sideways between the beds in the small bedroom, so the drawers didn't open. Later, this became a problem when we tried to find the phone book to book another hotel, as we'd decided we couldn't spend another night of our long weekend there. The bedroom door handle left a hole in the wall each time it was opened, as there was no rubber padding on the wall. For the two nights there, we didn't get a good night's sleep as the beds were badly made with these very tiny sheets that kept slipping off; the pillows were like high and hard; the bedroom blinds didn't fully didn't cover the windows so light shone through the whole night; and the room ventilation was stuffy because the A/C unit was partially hidden behind the makeshift clothes rack they installed in front of it. We were constantly killing flies that were everywhere, and the couch looked nasty, so we spread towels on it. We spent most of the two days outside, but even so, our stay was uncomfortable and intolerable. We know for sure--NEVER, NEVER AGAIN will be stay there!
The positives are the beach-front location, though most hotels are no more than two short blocks from the beach, Also our unit was one of the two, top floor beach-front units that have a wide deck that gives the most privacy away from the rest of the guests.
Among the other negatives is that there are no restaurants within walking distance, so you have to catch the trolley or drive everywhere.
Room Tip: Don't stay on the 1st floor-faces the parking lot and lots of foot traffic; try to get the top...
