“The BEST Hotel in Wildwood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

I was very leary when searching for a hotel in Wildwood as a lot of them are older and not maintained. I read a positive review for the Port Royal Hotel and booked along with another family. As a family of 4 with a 10 and 12 year old, we found the property to be outstanding. Garage parking, VERY clean rooms that were updated, private balcony, views of the ocean from every room. The front desk staff were GREAT. 5 stars!!

Room Tip: Rooms on the North side have a great view of Wildwood and Morey's Piers.

“Great amenities and caring staff at the Port Royal Hotel”

My husband and I were so thankful that we discovered the Port Royal Hotel in 1974 while searching for a place that would accomodate us, our two toddlers and their grandmother. We wanted an efficiency apartment with a private balcony, kiddie and adult pools, a restaurant, and a game room, all in one location on the beach. This was it! It was only two years old. Not only was it the right place for our family but the staff treated us like family and kept the appliances, floors, bedding, linens and bathrooms spotless every time we returned. That was a 30 year relationship and still going strong! The head of the cleaning staff, Rita, is still there making everything right for everyone. Ron has been managing this hotel for as long as I can remember. It shows. The renovations made in the rooms and the property through the years have been outstanding. We could entertain visiting family and friends outside on the deck by the pool too. It was the morning of 9/11/2001 when I placed a call to Louise Thompson explaining that we were scheduled to take a flight to Myrtle Beach, for our vacation in September, when all flights were grounded and the United States was under attack. Where were we to go on such short notice and where would we even feel safe? Louise found a single hotel room at the Port Royal for us where we stayed for that sad week and felt safe, peaceful and at home. When my husband passed away it was Louise who sent me a note of condolence. I know when I call her to reserve a room that she will do eveything in her power to help me make that stay a memorable one. The location is perfect being near the bike rental place and a playground and a long cement walkway, by the dunes, leading up to the boardwalk in Wildwood. Our family loved riding up to the boardwalk after breakfast and on the boards till 11:30 am. They even have a safe in each room which I find to be very convenient. If you need anything at all someone will be at your door to help you almost immediately. Now that I'm a grandmother I'm looking forward to reverting back to the old days and have my family all together at the Port Royal Hotel where I know this new generation will feel comfortable and enjoy good food, fun activities and safe surroundings for our vacation times spent there. You can't beat their "Get-Away-Weekend" packages either. You won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Try the north side of the building since it's great for sun on your balcony all morning. Then it...

“Wonderful hotel, but depends on the price”

The Port Royal is frequently regarded as the nicest of Wildwood's many places to stay (along with the nearby Pan Am) and it's definitely different from what you'll typically find in Wildwood- a hotel compared to the usual motels, complete with underground parking, interior hallways and outdoor patio area with pool and hot tub. During the regular season, the Port Royal's prices reflect the fact that it's different from everything else you'll find in Wildwood and unless money isn't of much concern, you'll probably find one of Wildwood's less-expensive motels to be sufficient for your shore vacation needs, Special October rates for people attending Morey's Pier's new-for-2011 "Terror on the Boardwalk" event made the Port Royal's prices more acceptable- still expensive, but when you toss in a free pizza at Jumbo's, free breakfast the following morning and event tickets, not downright shocking.

The hotel's staff is, for the most part, extremely helpful and friendly, although our waitress at the restaurant during breakfast seemed as though she had enough of the long summer season and was waiting for winter. We got a hotel room- the smallest of the room options- and it was indeed tight, barely enough room for a twin and queen bed. It would have been tight for more than two people, as well as additional nights. Still, it was a nice room, well-furnished with comfortable beds. The bathroom appeared to be very new and was likely the cleanest bathroom we had ever encountered.

Too bad the Port Royal is so expensive most of the time... it's a place we'd love to stay more often.

“That old gang of mine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Recently a group of eighteen friends stayed at the Port Royal Hotel for the 3-night package. The rooms were immaculate and the restaurant was outstanding. Most of all Louise Thompson was of the utmost help to me in planning our mini vacation. She made the reservations at the restaurant and did everything in her power to make sure we all enjoyed our stay. All members of the staff were kind, courteous and helpful. We will return next year.

“Port Royal Hotel in Wildwood Crest - Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

A group of friends (20 in all) enjoyed the 3-night package at this hotel recently. We were delighted with everything! The rooms are squeaky clean, the food is very good and the service is just fantastic. The staff could not do enough for us. We have already made our reservations for the same time next year. Think my hubby and I will also give it a try during the summer.

Room Tip: Believe that all rooms are either oceanview or oceanfront with balcony.
