My husband and I were so thankful that we discovered the Port Royal Hotel in 1974 while searching for a place that would accomodate us, our two toddlers and their grandmother. We wanted an efficiency apartment with a private balcony, kiddie and adult pools, a restaurant, and a game room, all in one location on the beach. This was it! It was only two years old. Not only was it the right place for our family but the staff treated us like family and kept the appliances, floors, bedding, linens and bathrooms spotless every time we returned. That was a 30 year relationship and still going strong! The head of the cleaning staff, Rita, is still there making everything right for everyone. Ron has been managing this hotel for as long as I can remember. It shows. The renovations made in the rooms and the property through the years have been outstanding. We could entertain visiting family and friends outside on the deck by the pool too. It was the morning of 9/11/2001 when I placed a call to Louise Thompson explaining that we were scheduled to take a flight to Myrtle Beach, for our vacation in September, when all flights were grounded and the United States was under attack. Where were we to go on such short notice and where would we even feel safe? Louise found a single hotel room at the Port Royal for us where we stayed for that sad week and felt safe, peaceful and at home. When my husband passed away it was Louise who sent me a note of condolence. I know when I call her to reserve a room that she will do eveything in her power to help me make that stay a memorable one. The location is perfect being near the bike rental place and a playground and a long cement walkway, by the dunes, leading up to the boardwalk in Wildwood. Our family loved riding up to the boardwalk after breakfast and on the boards till 11:30 am. They even have a safe in each room which I find to be very convenient. If you need anything at all someone will be at your door to help you almost immediately. Now that I'm a grandmother I'm looking forward to reverting back to the old days and have my family all together at the Port Royal Hotel where I know this new generation will feel comfortable and enjoy good food, fun activities and safe surroundings for our vacation times spent there. You can't beat their "Get-Away-Weekend" packages either. You won't be disappointed!
Room Tip: Try the north side of the building since it's great for sun on your balcony all morning. Then it...
