Planned a last minute getaway with husband and two daughters (12 and 15) and two of their friends. Called to inquire about suite accommodations and spoke with a lovely woman who advised that she had a suite available that would sleep 6 (two double beds and a sofa bed.) When we checked in, I noticed that there were no pillows in the room for the sofa bed and went to the office to inquire. After the person at the desk put her personal phone call on hold (cell phone) to answer the hotel phone and then a second time to answer my question about the pillows, she assured me that she would bring pillows to the room and leave them. I further asked about the sofa bed and she assured me that all linens were on the bed. So, off we went to the Boardwalk for the evening, feeling confident that all would be ready when we returned to the room. Upon our return after midnight, we discovered that she must have been so distracted by her personal phone call the she had forgotten to bring the pillows to the room! As if that wasn’t bad enough, we opened to the sofa bed to find nothing but a torn fitted sheet on the bed! NO BLANKET, NO TOP SHEET AND NO PILLOWS!
Since as typical of Wildwood Crest hotels, the office was closed, we called the emergency number. After 7 attempts, Bruce (who identified himself as one of the owners) answered the phone. After describing the situation, Bruce informed me that he was “somewhere between Wildwood and Philadelphia and would not be able to help” me. He informed me that it was not an emergency and that they “would take care of it in the morning”. At this point, I told him that I expected that we would receive a refund for the night.
We went out looking for a store that was open to buy linens – to no avail (no 24 hour Wal-marts in the area). After driving around for over an hour, we found an open Rite Aid and purchased a $20 beach blanket, returned to the room and slept (or tried to sleep) with rolled up towels for pillows and the one small blanket. (Needless to say, we did not get much sleep).
In the morning when I went to the office, Ted, the manager, told me he knew about the problem, was sorry and that they would be refunding me $50 for my trouble! I was shocked – I expected a full refund of the $204 we had paid for the room! After the money that I spent in gas and the $20 on the blanket not to mention the lack of sleep – $50 was hardly compensation! All 6 of us were up until nearly 3 am due to this “inconvenience”. I told Ted that I expected a full refund and his reply was “we are not at all about refunds but in this case, I was authorized to give you $50”. I was really angry at the lack of interest in compensating us and let Ted know that! He told me that I would receive the $50 refund when we checked out. Upon check out, I asked that we be given complimentary breakfast at the restaurant. Ted agreed, and then proceeded to lecture me on how he would have given them to me without my asking if I had been nicer. Perhaps if I had gotten what I paid for and a good night’s sleep, I would have been nicer! I will review the restaurant separately on another post so as not to confuse the two…very different experiences in terms of customer service!
I would NOT recommend this place at all!
Room Tip: The rooms are small, very poorly lit and not updated. Avoid rooms over the restaurant!
