“Perfect for a family of five”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed here one night on December 27 while visiting New York City. We are a family of five and rooms are usually too small to accommodate us. We had a bedroom and a living area with a sofa bed that fit us perfectly. Everyone was able to pick out something the following morning for breakfast, although no one wanted to wait in line for an omelette or pancakes. We were lucky to find two tables because they did run out of seats. We didn't get to the hotel until 9:00 pm and were exhausted so I can't critique whether the room needed updating. We didn't have any problems with check in or the attitude of the front desk staff. We didn't use the bus service since it cost us as much to park in NYC as it would have to take the bus ($7.90 round trip). It was close to the Lincoln Tunnel so it was easy to get in and out of NYC. It was also close to a shopping center, where we ended up having dinner the night of our arrival. We would definitely stay here again.

“The front desk staff has a bad attitude”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

I stayed here December 2011 and here is my review of the Embassy Suites in Secaucus, NJ:

Service:
The front desk staff has a terrible attitude. There is a guy behind the counter named Walter (on his name tag) that acts like he is doing you a favor. He is snooty and rude. If he doesn't want to work there or if his life is that miserable, he should just find another job. His attitude is unacceptable. The other male staffers just plow you over when they walk around with no manners.

The lady who cooks the omelets during breakfast time does the best that one can do while keeping a good attitude. The lines were at least 25 people deep but she just keeps on cooking.

Room: Old furniture, and not enough towels. Well, if you don't expect much more than just a place to stay, then it is ok. But paying over $200/night (after taxes) is definitely not worth it. The linens in the fold-out bed and mattress had really deep stains and looks to be several decades old. EW!

Food:
Above average breakfast if you can get it. The lines and crowds are horrible. I know I went during the Christmas season, but it was like fight people for breakfast. Like I mentioned earlier, the line for the omelets and pancakes are at least 25 deep. There was an large guy (6'3", 220) with a crew cut who had a t-shirt with "marines" on it who hit an old senior in the face/glasses with metal tongs while he was getting several pieces of toast from the toastmaker. He didn't even say sorry. I felt sorry for the older man. The only way to get any food is to fight for it. It shouldn't be like this.

Overall review: I would look at other options before reconsidering returning. They need to fire "Walter" at the front desk.

“Very friendly and helpful staff!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Overall had a nice stay. The front desk and restaurant staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The room had a strange odor but was otherwise fine, though could use some updating. Breakfast was tasty. Small restaurant menu, took a while to get food (bar was packed and only 1 person serving). Very easy to get to NYC. I would definitely stay here again.

“Customer service is terrible!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

Rough week here but as it's my 3rd stay I felt compelled to draft a review. Hotel is average at best and is certainly dated. Front desk staff if tolerable but the night shift is less than cooperative and seems disinterested... As a business traveler, the biggest issue with this hotel is the lack of talent and a focus in customer service. That coupled with the moronic male bartender who insults everyone within ear shot... Will never stay here again based primarily on his lack of customer service - ran 10 people out of the bar before last call... All were business travelers... One of the worst hotel experiences I've had! Try the courtyard or Hyatt Place for less $$$

“Convenient NYC Hotel without the high prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

Wife and I wanted to stay on the NJ side of the Lincoln Tunnel and go into the city a few days. I picked this Embassy Suites from previous reviews. As a HHonors Gold member, I requested and got an upgrade to the 6th floor with city views. We were pleasantly suprised by the distant view of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and city skyline. The hotel seems to be a little older than other Embassy Suites I have stayed in. Lobby and the bar was clean and nice. Room was clean, although furniture and drapes look dated. Some previous posters complained about the free breakfast, but I didnt see it here over the 4 days (including weekend) we were here. The omelette cook was cooking 6-8 omelletes at a time, so we never waited more than 5 minutes on line. We always found a seat. Movie theater, Sams, Walmart, convention center and several restaurants within walking distance. NJ Transit Bus to NYC is really convenient! Bus runs every 15 minutes from bus stop across the street to Port Authority Bus Terminal. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a city view, well worth a couple extra dollars
