My wife, 2 kids and I were looking to head up to a hotel near the mountains where we could ski during the day and head back to the hotel late afternoon and swim in the pool with the kids. So, after I looked through some hotels I found this one. Their website shows that they have a nice indoor pool and beautiful pictures of the rooms. So we said, let's book this one and drive up there and spend the next 3 nights of Xmas vacation 2011. After a long 3 hours drive, we finally arrive, yeahhhhh.
The entrance looked nice. At the front desk there was a new employee working by himself and didn't know what he was doing. It took him over 20 minutes to check us in. Next we asked him where where the indoor swimming pool was, his answer was: "we don't have one, but you can drive a couple of blocks from here and use the indoor pool that is being share by the hotel community around." WHAT, ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????
I told him that the reason we came here is for the pool for the kids, now you are telling us we have to get in the car and drive somewhere to use a pool. I asked him to look at their website and see the pool we were talking about. He said that that was wrong and their website needed to be updated. We were disappointed. So, because we were tired from driving, we decided let's just sleep one night and leave tomorrow. We took the keys and headed up to the 4th floor, room # 406. The hallway looks like an old apartment building, not a hotel at all, and for the price they were charging, $217/night, this must be a mistake...
So, we open the door to the room and walk in, Yiikes... nothing like the picture we saw on their site. A totally different looking room with poor lighting, an old TV downstairs and an old sofa that looked like it went through World War II. Upstairs had no room to move around: just 2 beds, a bathroom and a closet and no TV. I personally like to watch a movie in bed before I fall asleep. So, that was a turn off for me and my 2 little kids.
Next, I took my laptop out of my bag so I could check my emails and prepare for some work for the next day... guess what folks! there was no Wifi connections. I went down to the front desk and asked about it, they said: "we have a linksys modem that is being used for wireless connections." How can a hotel of some 300+ rooms have a wireless network running on a single linksys router???? that is absurd and cheap. This really threw me off and we decided it was not worth spending a single extra minute in that hotel. My kids wanted to leave and go back home, so did my wife and I. We packed our stuff back in our bags and went downstairs, returned the keys to the front desk, cancelled our reservation and left back home. We thought it wasn't worth it for us to spend that kind of money at a place with no TV in the bedroom for the kids, no internet connection and no indoor swimming pool. False advertising is definitely an issue here that needs to be looked at.
So my friends, if you are thinking about staying in this hotel, I've laid out every little details about my experience there. If you still feel that you don't need any of the stuff I've mentioned, then by all means, go and stay there, otherwise, look elsewhere.

We believe that our website is clear and is not misleading. We are a 42 room inn (not 300+ as you stated in your comments) and our website clearly lists the amenities in question as follows:
Report response as inappropriate
Seasonal Pool - outdoor seasonal pool
Free Wi-Fi available in the lobby.
Athletic Club - White Mountain Athletic Club with indoor 25 meter heated pool, outdoor 25 meter heated pool (in season), cardiovascular equipment, aerobics, weight lifting, steam rooms, walking/jogging track, saunas.
The use of the Athletic Club is a benefit that is offered to our guests to accommodate them since our pool is seasonal, plus they get all of the advantages of the club as you see above. It is a two block drive from our hotel and the state of the art facility has never been an inconvenience for our guests.
We agree a few of our townhouses may be a little outdated however we will begin to update several of them in the spring. We are one of the few hotels in the area that offer two story units. These units are ideal for families because they sleep 6, have two bathrooms, and are very comfortable.
We at The Valley Inn apologize for any inconveniences during your recent visit and hope that you would reconsider visiting us again in the summer when our seasonal pool is open.
