we stayed there in april 2011 for 9 days and the manager mike was one the nicest people that i had met in a long time. He was very helpful kind ,and pleasant went out of his way to make sure that we were satisfied. The young man on his staff and his wife were also very helpfull. I enjoyed my stay there tremendously, it was rainy and cold but the motel made up for it. I definatley will be going back. I have family in that area.Thank for a great stay Elaine and michael from florida

“Great place to stay!”

My husband and I found ourselves in the unenviable position of having to travel from our home to the White Mountain area due to a family emergency. After having stayed at the Portsmouth location many times, we found that they were sold out. Tom on the desk recommended the Rochester location and gave us great directions.
Upon arriving, Mike Barnhard (Manager) greeted us and made us feel welcome. He recommended eateries in the area and directed us to the nearest shopping center.
The room was nice-no frills but comfortable. However, the grounds were absolutely beautiful and the pool was crystal clear. My husband and I don't remember ever seeing an outdoor pool so well-kept. Kudos to your maintenance staff-what a great job! Sitting outside the room in the evening and enjoying the surroundings was a welcome respite from the stress of the day.
I would definitely recommend Anchorage Inn of Rochester to friends and family alike!

“Great stay & great staff!”

My wife, myself, and our 3 children stayed here for 3 nights. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel has a great feel to it...the pool is wonderful and has plenty of umbrellas for shade if needed. There is a BBQ grill on site along with a great area that children can run and play in. We used this hotel as our base while going to Water Country in Portsmouth. The drive wasn't bad...20 minutes or so. It actually gave the kids time to wind down. We are going to be staying there again in a few weeks.

“Good for smokers with pets, not as great for non-smokers with children”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

A mixed experience.

When we checked in at 4 p.m. (check in starts at 3 p.m.) we arrived in our room and found out it was a smoking room, despite the fact the we had requested non-smoking. My 3 year old clearly described it as “stinky”. I called the front desk, and the clerk who answered was very friendly and she cleaned us a non-smoking room while we waited.

They seem to be in the process of renovating rooms, my parents room had new carpet, bedding, and curtains. My room on the other hand had blankets with cigarette burns and stained carpets (they do let pets stay here as well). The outdoor pool area, with grills and tables, is lovely, but was populated with shirtless, smoking builders with a spitting problem - blech!

They do offer a continental breakfast which is pretty much cereal and undercooked waffles from the waffle iron. No fresh fruit.

I don't think I would stay here again, even though it was convenient on the ride back from Maine and the price was very reasonable.
