“A Magical Holiday”

As a Seacoast native turned NYC resident, it has been difficult over the years to find a great place to stay when visiting family during the holidays or for other occasions. But no more. The Governor's House so exceeded our expectations for quality, service and charm that we were ready to move in! We found our room stocked with Frette linens and robes, high thread-count sheets and complimentary wine and beverages. The "In case you forgot..." closet just outside our door was filled with anything you may have forgotten to pack-- free of charge.

The B&B itself is a gracious yet cozy mansion with dozens of curl-up-and-read corners -- from the second floor guest library stocked with best- sellers, current newspapers and magazines and DVDs-- to the game room, a beautiful glassed-in porch off the living room. Bob Chaffee could not be more helpful or a bigger Portsmouth booster -- he knows every chef and restaurant in town and can tick of the list of "best of Portsmouth's" without once consulting his notes! Allow yourself to be guided by him.

Will we return? As we say in New England, " You betcha!".

“Governor's House is excellent!”

We arrived on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 and were greeted by Bob Chafee proprietor. Bob welcomed us into his beautifully decorated historic home. We stayed in the Captain's room, luxuriously laden with amenties including wine and chocolates. Bob and his wife Barbara prepared a delicious continental breakfast each morning of our stay. It was the perfect getaway! We strongly recommend this Inn to anyone planning a trip to Portsmouth.

Room Tip: Book early and ask for a room with a whirlpool tub.

“We want your job!”

We loved your Inn and it met the expectations for my wife and I completely. We consider ourselves "hotel people" but wanted to make this weekend special. We left our vacation with you envious of your location and the how much you enjoy what you do.
It was a pleasure meeting you both and we appreciated the privacy and all the suggestions you had for some great places to go in Portsmouth. I doubt we would have found on our own.
The Inn is well decorated and cared for and no detail was missed in making us feel comfortable.
We would stay here again over any other place we found in the area.

“We keep coming back, and back, and back...”

The Governor's House has become like that favorite dish you just have to order every time because even though you believe in the concept of variety, you know you'll be disappointed if you have everything else. So it was earlier this week when my wife and I stayed in the Governor's House. The house itself epitomizes New England charm, and it's located within walking distance of town, it has basically every academy award winning movie ever made, and the innkeeper, Bob, is about as warm as they come.

Room Tip: I think we've stayed in every room at this point, and we've loved them all.

I can not say enough good things about our stay at the Governor's House. It is meticulously claen with a lot of attention to detail. The fresh flowers, chocolates, nuts ,wine, chocolate chip cookies, mini fridge in the room and friendly atmosphere made this a home away from home.We would definitely return

Room Tip: We stayed in the romantic Prescott room with a jacuzzi tub.
