I just returned from a 5 night stay at the Tall Timber Lodge. I picked it based on Trip Advisor reviews and we were not disappointed. The staff was excellent and it was everything we were looking for: relaxation, nature, kayaking, campfires, toasting marshmallows, good food, and a clean, comfortable cabin with good beds. The cabins are a step up from a "rustic" cabin as the bathrooms are modern and clean, and the kitchen cabinets are nice. Having said that, they also maintain their charm. Ours (Cedar Cabin) had a gas "wood stove", which was great for chilly evenings. It also had regular heat for very cold nights. We loved sitting out on the front porch and just passing the time. There are free kayaks and canoes for guest use, which was great. The lake has easy access from the shore. They have lots of puzzles and games for rainy days. The restaurant on the property has excellent food, and the attached bar has great pizza and my favorite: Lodge salad. There are several sights for scenic views in the area---too many to list. I really wanted to see a moose and spend several "dusks" traveling up and down roads trying to spot one. On our last night we were finally rewarded..we saw a whole family...mom, dad and baby moose right off Rte 3. This is a fantastic place for people who are not expecting night life. There are few places around to go for that. This is a place to unwind, forget about your cell phone (it doesn't work here) and leave your cares behind. Do some fishing, hiking, boating, and spend your evenings around a campfire. One note: Although they do have internet service, you need to bring your laptop to the main building to access it. Cedar Cabin is right next door so we were able to get a signal from our porch, but most could not. The internet is not 100% reliable. It was down for a whole day while we were there. They do have a pay phone, and you can purchase calling cards at the front desk. We looked at several cabins while we were there. Our favorite was the largest one, called Maple or Cabin #1. It is on 2 levels and has 2 decks overlooking the water. 2 of the 3 upstairs bedrooms have sliders onto the deck...very nice. Maple also has a nice jacuzzi tub, and a bathroom on each level. More like a house than a cabin. The next biggest was Pine, which was also very nice. We loved the setting of Hemlock because the kitchen sink faced the water and the view was unobstructed by any trees. Every cabin we saw was nice. Most had full kitchens with regular size ovens and fridges. (Cedar has a mini-fridge, microwave and toaster, but no kitchen sink or stove. We washed our dishes in the bathroom sink---no big deal.) Even the cabins across the road were really cute if you don't mind being across from the lake rather than on it. Personally we loved being right on the lake. We are already looking forward to next year!
Room Tip: We didn't see the lodge rooms, but every cabin we saw we liked. Nice clean place!
