“Great value”

We stayed at the Highlander Inn on the July 4th week-end. Although hesitant at first, since we were afraid it was just a non-discript airport hotel, we were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. The hotel is charming, clean and welcoming. We absolutely DID NOT hear any airplane noise from the airport. We had our dog with us, and the room was prepared with pet dishes and a fluffy bed for him to sleep on. We travel a lot with our dog, and that was the first time a hotel provided accommodations like that. The free continental breakfast was delicious, and we ate in a lovely outdoor garden, although there is both a dining room and garden room available. My family lives in the area, but never recommended the Highlander to out-of-town guests, but after seeing our experience, certainly will from now on.

“Convenience, Quality, Incredible Staff, what more can you ask for?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

I have stayed at the Highlander Inn a few times now and it's always the same - Great! Rooms are always clean and comfortable. WiFi is always available and easy to access. The staff is friendly and always willing to help you during your stay. They remember you and treat like family. Airport parking is the best available in Manchester!

“Most convenient hotel for the airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

This is the best place to stay before a flight at Manchester airport. Their prices for rooms, available (reasonable) parking, and convenient shuttle make it the best choice.

“Sad”

We have stayed at the Highlander at least one time in all of the past ten years. I would agree with a previous reviewer who stated that it is "not as it once was" How very true. To me it seems that the current management is running the place into the ground. It used to have a beautiful entry way complete with fresh flowers and a roaring fire. For the past couple of years, there have been no flowers and a gas insert has been put into the fire place. Before we even got into the door, I noticed a trash can lid on the ground off the front walk way. In the doorway there is a trip advisor sign. By the check in desk there is a computer that says " This computer is for writing trip advisor reviews only." There used to be a wonderful restaurant in the inn called Basils. There is no longer a restaurant or any kind of room service. Speaking of food service, a few years ago we stayed there on a package that included a fruit platter. It was the most beautiful dispaly of fruit I have ever seen anywhere and we even took a picture of it. Fast forward to now. In the online registration, you are able to order a fruit platter. Remembering the one we had several years ago, we went ahead and ordered it for $35. Upon arrival in our room there was a small plastic container of mixed fruit, quite obviously left over from breakfast, with cut up chuncks of melon and apple. There were no utencils left with it. This was our "fruit platter" For $35? I think not. I called down to the desk and had them come and get it and remove the charge. While I was on the phone, my husband turned on a light. The light bulb was broken, so I went ahead and asked for a light bulb. We could not tell from our bill the next day if the fruit charge had been removed. I could go on, but I'm sure by now people get the picture. The former management took great pains to make the Highlander a beautiful place. The current management is doing nothing to keep it that way. It is quiet and the rooms are large. If you are flying out of the airport it would be a good place to stay because it is so close.
