“One of best experiences of my life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2011

I am an avid skier and outdoorsperson, including snowshoeing, x-c skiing, hiking. My gf and I wanted to spend the weekend in Jackson, which is the best place in NH anyway. It's upscale and the area can be pricey. We just wanted a place to crash so looked at prices. Windy Hill was about the most reasonable on the internet. When I saw it was a working farm I was excited, I love that kind of experience. I was slightly hesitant because it's 2 1/2 miles from the center of the town, but decided to go for it anyway. The location turned out to be a plus, not a minus and who cares about a 4 minute drive to the town?

I expected a basic, run down old farm. As we drove up the STEEP road to the farm, the scenery, snowcovered, became more and more gorgeous. Then there was the house, and another house next to it, part of the compound, and a barn, all extremely well maintained and beautiful. The farmhouse is old but totally remodled and beautiful and charming. There are only 3 guest rooms and we had the "double", a modestly sized but perfectly adequately sized room with a large closet and our own bath. SPOTLESSS and the views from anywhere in the house were stunning. We saw the "queen" room and it was much larger. The hosts, Anne and her signifcant other, Bob, on a scale of 1 to 10 as to niceness, were a 10. I went out snowshoeing with Bob and at my request I helped feed the cows, as he educated me about raising cows. And about pigs, which arrive in the Spring and are "processed" in the Fall. We elected to pay the extra money for dinner one night and it was fabulous, a great meatloaf made from their own organic cattle. And we wound up eating with the other interesting couple there, a nice experience. Anne said sometimes she serves moose. The two breakfasts we had were gourmet and we were able to choose from a list of all superb breakfast choices.

I detest forgettable hotels and being that kind of person, this was TOPS as an experiece. We are going back this coming weekend and look forward to going back in the summer when Anne and Bob say we can if we like, help with the pigs and the hay. WOW. Looking at the reviews, all but one are spectacular, How often do so many people rave about a place. I think the ONE person with the somewhat negative review needs anger counseling.

Wi fi. NO tvs, these are COOL people they don't even own a TV. GOOD. I don't go away to watch tv.

Oh, there's a hot tub outdoors and Anne said feel free to go "skinny". Next time, late at night.,

This is an incredible BARGAIN. You couldn't pay me to stay at a more luxurious but BORING place.

“So quiet!”

For us, this was a perfect location. Out of town, in the foothills, it had humming birds and chipmunks to watch over the huge breakfasts which were lovingly prepared by the owner who also ran the farm and did everything else in a superhuman way! The view from the room was outstanding and the quietness meant we had the best sleep of our holiday. It was quirky because you were living in a working farm but for us it was perfect. It had free wi fi, washing machine and tumble drier and comfortable lounge. Highly recommended.

“Clean, quiet location with magnificent views of the White Mountains”

We really enjoyed our stay at Anne's idyllic farm at the end of the paved road. Jackson is close to excellent hiking and restaurants, and the rooms were clean and charming. The farm is very well kept and straight out of a picture book. Anne is welcoming and a great cook. Brad & Susan

“Friendliest hosts you'll ever meet.”

These guys are great. These arent five star rooms and meals, but for $100 a night we easily got what we paid for and more.

Where these guys really pull ahead of the pack is in their unprecedented kindness and warmth. Seriously, I stayed for two nights and I feel like these guys are my grandparents. (Not the grandparents who you feel obligated to visit, who pinch your cheeks too hard. These are the grandparents who you beg your parents to see, who keep a well stocked candy bowl.)

The couple's names are Bob and Anne. On our first night Bob spent two hours with us, showing us the various constellations (which were crystal clear, in the nearly city light-free country setting), letting us help feed the pigs, and cows, and searching for shooting stars.

In the morning Bob drove us to Mt Washington to save us cab fare. When we offered to pay him he refused.

Anne fed us in the morning- We asked for omelettes, but she was willing to cook us anything out of her cookbook. After breakfast she gave us a warm scolding for not having traveled safely on the mountain. It was obvious that she cared.

All in all a great find. If you're ever in Jackson, NH, particularly for traversing Mt. Washington, you cant do better than the Windy Hill Bed and Breakfast!

“What a wonderful find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2009

This was a wonderful out of the way find (but not too far out of the way - short distance to Jackson and restaurants) surrounded by fields and mountains - we were told the fall colours were the best they'd been for 10 years ~ which is why we were there. Our hostess (Anne) was a delight - she had a very dry sense of humour (might not be appreciated by all) and made us very welcome, we were told to treat the house as our own. The owner is a working woman running a farm almost single handedly and is also a part time fire fighter so she isn't always on the premises, if she's not she leaves messages on chalk boards so you know what's what, which we found quaint - its also not just here that this happens - if you do B&B's in New England expect the owners not to be in but messages left as a normal way of communication. We loved it here and wished we'd had longer. The food was good and home cooked, we took the candle lit dinner on our second night which was good, our host was off square dancing that evening and we were invited to go along with her. We would highly recommend this establishment to travellers who want to feel as though they were staying with friends in their own homes, would not recommend to those who want the high life with tons of facilities and who like lots of people, distractions and hotel amenities - no room service here - we just loved everything about the place and the people we met.
