Our group consisted of 4 couples for 4 nights at NY NY, Feb 1 - 5. When we checked in, the front desk rep refused to let us have a King bed room, even though the other 3 couples received one. No explanation was given. My husband and I didn't know they had received king rooms with no problem until we were talking about it later. We settled for 2 doubles, which is okay I guess. We just didn't understand why we were not given the same courtesy of a king room, especially when I found out we had paid $140 more overall than the other 3 couples! When we checked out on Sunday, we used the express checkout system on the TV in our room. I requested a receipt to be e-mailed to me so that I could bypass the front desk that morning. Big mistake! When my receipt finally arrived 5 days later, I noticed the charged rates were much more than the rates I confirmed at. After several calls, I was finally able to get them to change the room charges to the booked confirmed rates. Fortunately I had an e-mail with the confirmed rates in it that backed me up. And getting them to send that was like pulling teeth. Apparently you really get taken if you book on line (I booked through a birthday discount e-mail I received). The other couples apparently called the MLife number and paid $140 less than we did. We all just assumed we had the same rates since we all booked the same type rooms (Park Avenue). I had called the MLife number a few days before we left for Vegas and was told I was getting the same rates as the others. Lesson learned - I should have requested a new DETAILED confirmation at that point. Also, the other 3 couples were given a little coupon book for some of the shops in the hotel. When we asked for one as well, the front desk rep refused! She acted like she had no idea what I was talking about. When another front desk staff member walked up, he handled it and apologized endlessly. He wasn't sure why she was being that way. The room itself was fine and the beds were very comfortable. It was also very quiet. That's too bad since we never want to return to NY NY after this experience with the reservation system and the front desk staff. Stay somewhere else and don't get taken for a ride like we did - too many other options in Vegas. The Aria is a good example - stay there instead! And the Aria has a ventilation system that takes care of the cigarette smoke in the casino - you don't even notice it.
Room Tip: choose a good room and stay somewhere else
