“Grand!!!!”

Well let me start by saying that this hotel is what it says and that is GRAND and when I say grand I mean large, I stayed here in October 2011 and previously back in September 2007, I decided to return to the MGM as I enjoyed myself so much the first time, the hotel is MASSIVE, when I thought about going back to MGM I kept reading all the reviews on trip advisor and it was pretty mixed, a lot of people would complain about the long walk to and from the casino floor to your room and that it takes you ages to get anyway at the MGM, but as I had stayed there before I didn't take any notice as I knew what I was going to.Well half way through my 10 day holiday in Vegas I wish I had listened to those reviews as I really had forgotten how much walking you do ( and that's just inside the hotel) after all the walking that you'll do in Vegas you'll want to get to room as quick as you can to rest your feet. I'm going back to Vegas in march next year 2013, one because it's cheaper and 2 the weather is cooler but better than in the uk.After reviewing various hotels we are going to stay at the Venetian as I perfectly located for all your needs, you've got a walgreens pretty much linked to the hotel, you've got the fashion show mall just across from the road and the outback steakhouse next door at the casino royale which I would I recommend to everyone going to Vegas ( go for the Victoria steak and/or the ribs ) Mmmmmmmmm...., but having said all that, there will be a part of me that will miss staying at the MGM (the foyer is the biggest and best in Vegas ). And one last thing before I go, make you sure you go to Nathan's hotdogs in the food court of MGM or in various other hotel on the strip and have the chicken tenders meal with a bud light lime, but before you go look online and you can get buy one get one free vouchers at Nathan's which I printed out and used. Well last of all have fun and enjoy yourself and remember ( WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS STAYS IN VEGAS ) my next report will follow in 2013 so look out for that....

“Still a great hotel for fun and excitement but needs some minor tweaks”

This is the third time in three years I have visited the MGM Grand Hotel. I still think it has everything for everybody that wants to visit Vegas. It is now up against some stiff competition as the strip has some new hotels with fresh and airy gaming floors. In response to this, the MGM is now going through a thorough renovation to the tune of $160 Million buckeroos. As of the first week of Febuary, Studio 54 is now closed and a new nightclub or comedy club will be opening and very sadly there is no longer the lion habitat. This was always fun to see and I suspect this decision will cause many family visitors to consider other hotels that also cater to family entertainment as opposed to just gambling and partying. I love the fact that one can seek a gourmet meal from one of their many restaurants or just go for McDonalds or pizza in their food court. Any meal for every taste. I did find a few things which I still consider maddening and will mention two. Why does one have to walk about a mile in the morning within the hotel for a simple cup of coffee. I realize that the MGM is trying to maximize profits but a simple coffee machine would eliminate the bad feeling that everyone experiences just to get their morning cup of java. Also, what is with this twenty dollar a day mandatory resort fee add on?. I never received a newspaper, never made a local call and even the swimming pool area was closed! Its a big rip off and a way to hide a higher hotel fee by simply charging a lower price and then adding on $20 a day. Why don't they put coffee machines in the rooms and deliver the paper every morning. That might justify the resort fee and make everyone happy.
My room was a bit tired and the carpet was dirty but by the end of this year all rooms will be completely renovated with flat screen TV's and everything will be new. I will certain ly visit again as it is the "place to be"

Room Tip: As for a renovated room with a flat screen.

“Horrible check in processes”

Arrived yesterday made the reservation for 2 particular rooms ( special occasion daughters 21 st birthday which was noted when reservation was made) told them I wanted to be on renovated floor. Flew in from no up since 4 am arrived at hotel around 10am. First the woman checking us in told us we couldn't have the room we reserved because they were taken and they were giving us another style room which did not have the spa bathroom. I told her that was unacceptable you don't downgrade for the hotels error you upgrade. In addition she told us if we wanted to be on the renovated floor we would have to pay 15.00 per night more after much debate I agreed. She then comes back to tell us we can't have those rooms they are reserved for someone else. After about 40 minutes the manager comes over to tell us we can have our rooms but not on the renovated floor ans we would have to wait until 3 pm for our inconvenience she would call the buffet area and we could have lunch on the hotel. We proceeded to the buffet only to find they didn't know what we were talking about. After another 30 minutes of debate that was straightened out. We came back to the hotel at 230 pm waited in line for over an hour only to find out our rooms were still not ready because they allowed someone to have a late check out so we had to take another room. The same manager came over to apologize but couldn't understand our dilemma of traveling since 4 am a very special occasion for my daughter started as a nightmare we had to wait the second time over an hour and half only to find out once again our room was not available. We complained to another manager of the lobby and when we were walking away she laughed at us to another employee. I have stayed in previous trips at the mirage,Venetian and bellagio I will never downgrade again by staying at the MGM. They have no regard to your reservation, travel time, inconveniencing their guests. They do not pay attention to detail ( daughters birthday or special arrangements for reservations). They figure once they get you here were are you going, well I won't be back here, and I will make sure everyone knows how unprofessional they are.

“beware of hidden charges here”

When checking in I was told the room would be $120 a night for 3 nights. I asked about internet and was specifically told internet was free throughout the resort.

Upon checking out I got hit with another $20 a night in obligatory resort charges. This is for the 200 free local calls I didn't make every day and the internet that didnt work. I spoke to the manager who pretty much called me a liar for saying I was told the internet was free.....She then showed my page 8 of 10 in the little book which said resort fees were mandatory and told me the price was not listed as it changes so often?

If you are staying in vegas I'd recommend going further up the strip - its dead at the MGM, the air circulation is terrible so you're constantly left with a sore throat and the whole place feels old.

We've been fans of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for over 20 years, having stayed there at least 10 times. The hotel's accommodations are very good, the casino has loads and loads of good slot machines and a large number of table games, the casual restaurants are quite good and not overly expensive, and the employees of the Grand are just grand! We go to Vegas at least once a year, mainly for fun and not as as a money-making venture, and achieve both goals (we have fun, and we return with less $$ than we went with). Because we joined the MGM rewards club several years ago (it's now called mLife), we've been fortunate to have our rooms at the MGM Grand comp'ed for at least the last 5 years, making our mini-vacations there even more enjoyable and affordable. Of the hotel casinos that we've stayed at in Vegas over they years - the others also part of the MGM family (New York New York, Luxor), we prefer the MGM Grand due to its amenities, fun environment, and cleanliness.

Room Tip: Since most visitors to a Vegas casino don't spend a lot of time in their rooms, the room selecti...
