My boyfriend and I stayed at the Signature from Thursday April 29 - Monday May 3. Booked through Expedia. We had a one bedroom suite in Tower 1, 29th Floor. The view was great, but as someone else mentioned, probably a million times better before Planet Hollywood was built. That blocks all the good stuff! The balcony was great to have for the view, fresh air and sunshine. However they were completly unfurnished so you had to drag inside furniture out if you wanted to sit outside at all.
Overall, the room was in good shape, clean, nicely decorated, kitchen well stocked with utensils, etc. We did get at least two bottles of water every day, and the wireless internet worked great. I realize there was a $20/day fee for this, which is ridiculous. The bathroom was huge, lots of marble, two vanities, etc. Tub was a little dated although it was a jacuzzi tub. The water pressure in BOTH the showers was terrible, although the sinks were so strong the entire vanity was soaked everytime you tried to use a sink. The kitchen was nicer than my kitchen at home, just smaller! Great to have the fridge and stove and coffee maker (thank God!), wine glasses, etc. We didn't cook at all except for tea/coffee. We did not have any kind of mini bar in the room, although the bell hop mentioned one.
I'm glad we were in Tower 1, as the walk from our room to the front desk, and then beyond to the Grand, the buffet, the casino, the monorail, were very far. It was okay at first, but you really get tired of it, even with the moving walkways. Often, one or more of them would be turned off so you would have to walk anyway. I'm in great shape, so is my boyfriend, but I would not recommend this to anyone with little kids, older people, or out of shape people. I saw A LOT of exhausted looking chubbies trying to make the long walk with their high high heels on. So sad ;-)
The casino seemed to be the largest on the strip, although I could be wrong. The Mayweather/Mosley fight was at the Grand the weekend we were there so it was packed with fight fans. Great people watching. The restaurants we sampled were great, however Diego's Mexican was not good at all. Don't bother. The buffet was "okay", definitely not worth the price but maybe I just don't eat enough to justify that price. I think it was $50.01 for Sunday brunch for 2. Yes, ONE CENT over $50, so that really dragged the line down. One Cent over? Really?!?!
Pros: The room was nicely furnished/clean/modern....it was pretty quiet except you could always here the neighbor slamming doors. The little store in the lobby, Starbucks in the lobby of Tower 1. Elevators were fast. Pop up tv in the bedroom was cool.
Cons: The Tower pools close at 5! The main pool closes at 6. And they literally come around and kick you out. Even on hot sunny gorgeous days when the pool is packed! It seemed crazy. The pool attendants at the Tower 1 pool ranged from super helpful (the guys) to downright rude (the girls). The Main Pool was packed, you have to climb over people and NO ONE came around for drink orders, long line a the bar. Not that this it the hotels fault, but we watched a very large group of British guys standing around IN the pool for HOURS, drinking incredible amounts of alcohol, and not ONE of them ever got out of the pool to use the bathroom. NOT ONE! So, needless to say, I would guess the mix at best was 50% pool water, 50% pee! Ewwwww. Also, piles of laundry in the halls were left there all day.
They close the front desk of the Towers randomly so you never know where you will have to go to get a cab/check out. The front desk attendants were AWFUL! Upon check in at approximately 9:30/10:00pm on a Thursday, there was one sad and miserable girl there, couldn't even crack a smile and was just plain rude and seemed very put out. No "welcome" , no thank you, nothing! Throughout our stay, the front desk staff remained unfriendly, unhelpful and put out. This is in NO WAY a five star hotel. The Consierge's refused to make eye contact, and would run and hide if it looked like you were going to ask for assistance. The one time we did get their attention was to ask about the pools, and they basically laughed at us saying they were closed. No apology, sympathy, nothing! The Bell Hops and Housekeeping were waaaay friendlier than the higher paid front desk staff. They really need to address this.
I guess it's nice if you want to be AWAY from it all, but IMO it is just TOO far from everything. I'm sure others will disagree. I might consider staying at the MGM Grand itself and forego a balcony, but if i'm going to pay this much, I may as well stay somewhere better located.
