“Bikefest 2011, pleasantly surprised.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Stayed here for 3 nights at end of September for Bikefest, nice little hotel for cheap. Pool area is best part of hotel, rooms are older but nicely appointed and recently remodeled. All in all for what theyre working with at this property they really do a nice job. Restaurant food was great, service was hit & miss depending on the server. Casino is small, no table games during the day and only 3 or 4 after dark but you're a close walk to Fremont St. Experience (1 block away) and all the larger casinos there. Been to Vegas many times but this is the 1st time we've stayed downtown and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend for budget travellers.

Room Tip: I would ask for the Oasis rooms by the pool again since the pool area is very nice.

Hello and thank you for your positive review. Bikefest was a blast not only for the city but for the Spike! I do agree that our newly remolded rooms are amazing! We have really done a lot to the Gold Spike and we continue to progress on a daily basis!

I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed our Grill as much as we do! Our casino floor is also a great place to play, however, we do have limited hours on selected days.

I would love to invite you back to the Spike, If you find yourself in Las Vegas please contact me directly and I will personally make your reservation for another fantastic stay!

Cheers,
Michael Swain

“Great for a place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

We arrived at Gold Spike early evening and check in was very quick and very helpful. We were given a pool room which was on the ground floor. The room was clean and newly refurbished, although it was missing a table to eat at (maybe the mess on the bed from the Chinese we made may have been a hint to them). Also, there were only blinds to shut out the light so was quite bright in the mornings.

The rest of the room was fine, the room was cleaned daily and didn't have any other problems (well, maybe one... No haurdryer so had to dry my hair on the heater!! Lol).

There is no ice machine for guest use so you have to go to the bar to get some.... Little warning, they make you feel a nuisance asking. They need more customer service in that department.

The annoying part of Gold Spike was when playing the machines.. They don't pay out when you want to take your money. This is where you have to wait for someone to come over to you to give it to you in cash. Very annoying. We only gambled here a few times (very quiet).

The location of the hotel is really close to Fremont and never once felt uncomfortable walking there and back.

If you're looking for a good nosebag, the Chinese/Thai restaurant about 2 minute walk away is really tasty, good value and good size portions.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and is excellent value for money, even if you don't gamble there! (we gambled at Queens) :)

Hello and thank you for your positive response.

I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay, It brings me great joy to know that our front desk and entire staff made you feel accommodated! As a friendly reminder if you have and questions of concerns please don't hesitate to call the front desk. There's Hair Dryers and Irons available at the Front Desk.

I do apologize that you felt neglected at the Bar. I will personally address this issue myself, every guest request is of the utmost importance.

I agree Thai Vegas on Freemont Street is Amazing! I eat there often myself! If you ever find yourself traveling to and or through Las Vegas. Please don't hesitate to contact the Spike to set up a reservation.

“bonnie sept gold spike hotel stay”

the location was the best part of staying here, we walked one block to fremont street. the rooms were clean, we had some issues with the housekeeping but you get what you pay for the casino is empty because an attendant has to pay you out after every machine, seems silly , food was great there.

Room Tip: dont stay on second floor poolside, have to walk outside up the stairs carrying all your luggage

“Lowroller suites”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

This place is the champagne of beers, fizzy but not too sweet. Your $8 resort fee gets you wifi and pool access, with a few decent coupons if you are lucky. The renovated rooms are a lucky shade of green with a nifty flatscreen, well worth $20 or so depending on the day. It's just one or two blocks to the main action of Fremont on a scruffy walk without any real danger. The rooms are very adequate, though not at all delux. Expect newer beds, decent A/C, a reworked bath, and Ikea like furnishings. The hallways and elevator are totally lowroller. The cafe offers a decent meal, so pluck out the coupon and enjoy. I like the tiny, but updated casino, cute. The bar is where the real action is for lowrollers looking for the highlife. Quirky but fun overall with a hidden oasis style pool. Well played GS.

“Great stay downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

Stayed here 3 times in our USA roadtrip and it was always very pleasant experience. The rooms although basic are really modern, clean and recently renovated. The 2nd time we stayed we were upgraded (for a small fee) to a suite which was massive and the balcony was huge too. Although the area nearby is a little 'shady' it really shouldnt put anyone off and for the reviews about limited parking, there is FREE undercover parking 2 blocks away... This place has a small gaming floor which smells clean (althought smoking is allowed) and is a minute walk to Fremont. Our last night was booked throught tripres.com and cost $12 (excluding resort fee of $8 inc wi fi which works!!!!) Would definately stay here again.
