“You get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Need a cheap room? The Gold Strike delivers! $40 or so gets you a room and it's about what you would expect for that. Nice size, good hot water and pressure. A bit dingy and dated. We suspect the last update was '97, considering the dates on the room's art work. Clean sheets and bedding, a very firm, not too comfy bed and a long walk down the interior hallway to our smoking King room. (Might be different with non-smoking rooms).

Easy check in, easy access to luggage carts, no hassles and a full casino if you want.

The in casino steak house was a pleasant surprise with excellent food and a pleasant, if a bit dated, decor. Quiet and very good service too.

Room Tip: The rooms do not have windows that open, so if you want to go with a non-smoking room and smoke outs...

“Really large room in old style hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Stayed at this hotel as part of road trip in NV and AZ in Oct 2011.

It's on the I-15, 20 minutes from Las Vegas Strip.

It's an older style property, which is reflected in the price. Also old furnishing.

It's good for a change away from the strip - to see what life used to be like 'back in the day'.

However, I think i prefer the modern strip hotels now.

“Old West”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

Casino Review---

Gold Strike is one of those places that is frequently passed, but is worth a second look. Stop by here for what is left of the old west in southern Nevada. Low limits, cool dealers, and slots that pay cash are hard to find elsewhere. Always $3 craps, always $3 blackjack, always FUN. If you're the MGM or Caesar's type, it might not be your cup of tea though. I'd hate to see your manicured hands get dirty from playing slot machines with real coins!

Room Tip: I didn't stay in the hotel.

“Verage property with great rates and decent food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Nice oasis close to but not in las vegas. room rates are cheap usually. Food is pretty good, priced well, and there are early morning specials for 1.99

Front desk is a little lost and have that cheap hotel attitude. I would return if needed but its not a destination property for me

Room Tip: all are fairly quiet

“Hotel: Older, a Bit Tired, a Bit Shabby, but Wonderful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

First, let me tell you that this review covers the hotel and the restaurants (in the lobby) only. I do not have any interest in gambling, and so I cannot talk about the casino, except to observe that the casino is ubiquitous and ever-present, because it takes up pretty much the entirety of the large lobby, aside from the hotel desk and the gift shop! Having said that, I will say that during my Nov. 2010 stay here, I much enjoyed wandering the casino and simply people-watching!

I like the hotel, and the restaurants! I spent 10 days here in late 2010, and I have reserved another stay, this one for 9 days, in late Novermber (2011). I ended up eating all three meals on most days at the hotel, and made only two forays up to south Las Vegas to find other food. Overall, the restaurants were quite good, and the food was quite good.

My room was located in the north tower, which is the older tower, and the room interior definitely felt a bit old and a bit shabby, but the room was clean, and well-equipped, and the somewhat dark 1960s/1970s decor of the room and the rest of the hotel was quiet and comforting, and very peaceful.

Overall, I had a good stay, and that is why I am going back again in November of this year (2011); I have some consulting work to do in the area, and this is far quieter and more comforting option that the modern cold steel/concrete/glass monstrosities in bustling Las vegas.
