Also known as Topaz Lodge, the hotel/casino is now affiliated with the Super 8 chain. Rooms, however, are larger and better furnished that what I expect from a budget hotel--closer to what you would expect from a Best Western or Comfort Inn.
Rooms have an outside entrance on the highway side of the hotel. The room is large, with a large picture window (on the side of the room opposite the entrance) which overlooks Topaz Lake. The view is spectacular. There was no traffic noise. Decor is western theme. The room was clean and in very good condition.

A continental breakfast is included with the room rate. What was offered was minimal, picked over, and generally unappealing. You also have the option of using your continental breakfast coupon as a $3 credit toward a regular breakfast in the hotel restaurant. There aren't any alternative choices nearby for food. I just skipped the meal.

The rooms at Topaz Lodge were recently remodeled and upgraded above what one might expect. Most rooms are decorated in a lodge motif with custom ordered furniture, lamps and bedspreads. Our views of Topaz Lake and the surrounding Sweet Water Mountain range is fantastic. You get these views in our hotel rooms, both restaurants, banquet room and lounge.

I have always been able to trust Trip Advisor review but not on this place. We had a room that was in the building with the casino which wasn't a problem, we were at the other end of the building. Access to the room was awful, the room was old, musty and moldy. The shower was so short my husband couldn't get in it, he's 6'3". The bathroom was so small it was creepy. The room smelled very musty. By 2 AM, I had to walk outside to breathe. My allergies had kicked in. I finally dozed back off after 4:30 AM and at 5:30, the housekeeping started vacuuming the room above us and slamming doors, etc. I couldn't believe it. We had 4 nights booked and left early the first morning. The staff was great, very accommodating and pleasant. They tried to move us to another room but I wasn't taking any chances. Our schedule was too tight so we drove on to Lake Tahoe and stayed there.

“Basic but comfortable room, variety of restaurants”

This was not a specific destination for me; I just happened to feel tired enough to want a room when I got this far driving south on Hwy. 395. This is a small, casual complex of a casino, restaurants and a motel (most rooms rented are in a separate building; there are a few in the same bulding as the casino); there is an adjoining gas station. There is a similarly-named motel, the Best Western Topaz Lake Inn, nearby. The room was basic. There seemed to be very few other guests on the winter Friday night I was there. Wi-Fi was free. I was tempted to eat in the steakhouse but prices were high, so I had ribs in the coffee shop (where I also had the complimentary continental breakfast; you also get the option of $3 off regular meals). I never did see Topaz Lake due to fog (ditto for Mono Lake down the road). Casino was very quiet. When I had a problem with the TV they said someone would check it out; no one came, but I resolved the problem on my own. All in all, a comfortable enough place to stop for the night.

“Casual and simple accomodations”

This lodge was recommended to us by a friend several years ago and we only now were able to stop in for stay. We found the room clean and comfortable, with an updated bathroom.

The real special surprise the the Steakhouse Restaurant located on the lower level of the Lodge. We really found it to be about the best meal we've ever had anywhere. If you stop at Topaz Lodge you really owe it to yourself to dine at the Steakhouse!
