Actually a friend sent me the following email on his visit there, so here are his thoughts:

"Standard budget hotel, apparently recently refurbished. Apparently Internet was down my night there. Included mediocre continental breakfast. But clean room, with a fine view. Quiet.

"Casino is small -- no great shakes. Staff civil, though not what I'd call friendly. But it has an excellent one-deck Blackjack game with a 3 dollar minimum bet and good rules -- a better game than we found in Lake Tahoe. You'll lose slower there -- and maybe just get lucky."

AND that is the best darn Super 8 I have ever stayed in! Labor Day weekend so the lodge was packed but still the staff was friendly and helpful. Excellent views from both the steakhouse and the coffee shop and I do recommend dining at both.
Large king rooms with nice sunrise views over the lake and mountains. Updated lodge motif with calming colors (loved the authentic antler lamps). Plenty of shower water pressure with a curved shower rod (a fav. of mine). Only negative I can come up with was the casino atmosphere. Casino looked nice and we would have spent some time there but with smoking allowed it ruled us out..:*( Thanks everyone for making our stay comfortable…Steve and Terri

We've stayed four times in the last six years - last time.
Rooms are expected for a Super8, basic. Last time.
The Steak House was gross, the prime rib was definately not cooked that day - grey and green is the best discription, couldn't eat - they did replace with a filet , 20 minutes after the main course was served, very good. The servers were quoting different "specials" to each of the tables. Last time.
The 21 dealers were the grumpiest I've ever experienced - 4 of 5 of them anyway. Not a bell to be heard in the "winning" casino - no smiles in that room. Last time.
Our experience was the "coffee shop" was the best food at the Lodge.
Overall, a good pit stop for a bed, a bit noisy though. Don't eat or gamble there.
Please believe this review - We're experienced travelers and know food.

Also known as Topaz Lodge, the hotel/casino is now affiliated with the Super 8 chain. Rooms, however, are larger and better furnished that what I expect from a budget hotel--closer to what you would expect from a Best Western or Comfort Inn.
Rooms have an outside entrance on the highway side of the hotel. The room is large, with a large picture window (on the side of the room opposite the entrance) which overlooks Topaz Lake. The view is spectacular. There was no traffic noise. Decor is western theme. The room was clean and in very good condition.

A continental breakfast is included with the room rate. What was offered was minimal, picked over, and generally unappealing. You also have the option of using your continental breakfast coupon as a $3 credit toward a regular breakfast in the hotel restaurant. There aren't any alternative choices nearby for food. I just skipped the meal.
