“Great people, old property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2011

Stayed on Jan 24th, 2011. Town was nearly full with most motels having event prices. Motel 6 however kept their standard room rate at $43 making it the best value in town. While the property was very old & carpets badly worn, it was evident that clenliness was still a priority! The staff, management & housekeeping were great! All had a smile and were attentive! I will return!

Passable for the price and in comparison to what else is in town.

“Maybe Motel 6 in better days, now more like Motel 1 or 2”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2010

Looking for just a cheap one-night stay during a cross-country ride we checked everything in Elko, and Motel 6 was the least expensive without sounding downright scary.

We've stayed at some very nice M-6's before; basic, clean and great for a quick stopover. This wasn't one of those.

We'd spoken to front desk before arrival, told them we needed 3 rooms near each other, on the first floor - as we'd be on motorcycles. When we arrived, we told them the same thing and they said they'd do it. We all go to our rooms which are in separate sections of the hotel and the rooms are far away from the parking area - which is exactly the opposite of what we've requested. A second conversation with the desk clerk and we have rooms next to each other on the first floor with parking in front - what was so impossible about this the first time?

The room is in awful condition, carpet stained, bed old and sagging, fan in the bathroom has the cover hanging halfway off and although working sounds like it's getting ready to go up in smoke.

Speaking of smoke, the smell in here is what I would expect from an ancient casino or maybe a bachelor's apartment after a weekend poker party. If this is a non-smoking room, I can't imagine what a smoking room is like.

My favorite thing about this place? The only thing they have to brag about online and on their billboards is "WiFi". I mean, not the pool (filled with brown/green algae), the beds (ugh), a coffeemaker or any other non-existent amenities, they brag about WiFi. Which they have, for a fee of $2.99 a day. How can you promote something you charge extra for? It's like a strip mall bragging "Now with Pay Parking!" Pathetic.

“Freeze your buns off!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

If you love freezing your buns off then this is the perfect place for you!!! The heaters in these rooms do not blow any air...! The attendant told me they were out of portable heaters... why on earth would a national chain want to hand out portable heaters? These are a fire hazard! Our room never got above 48 degrees F. and they moved us to another room and we got the same frigid result. We asked for and got a refund and went to Super 8 down the street, the few extra dollars spent was well worth it. I feel very sorry for the attendant. She was very courteous and helpful but helpless to the situation. I should mention it was not all that cold outside... about 30 degrees F. I'd hate to stay in this place if it were below zero out there...

“Building sucks, staff is great!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2009

My small children & I checked in after 10 hours of driving for one night. Check-in was a breeze. The night attendant was very nice & told me to call him if I needed anything. I thanked him and immediately went to my room looking forward to getting into bed and to sleep. Ha- fat chance! The beds were okay but musty smelling. The carpet was black and smelled horrible. I refused to let my kids play on the floor. The bathroom fixtures were fixed with what looked like JB Weld and the floor in the bath was missing huge chunks of linoleum! There was no luggage rack, hangers, TV remote, phone book, etc. The lock on the door only securely latched if I put my full weight against it and then quickly latched the top sliding part. After getting everyone into bed, the worst part began. A very loud party started up directly above us. I'm not a total prude & I don't mind a little noise in a motel; after all, people are in close quarters and things like that happen, but this was ridiculous. The people upstairs sounded like they were dropping bowling balls onto the floor. It was so loud that it woke my 4 year old (who sleeps like the dead) up in a panic. This kept on for about 10 minutes so I finally called the front desk. The clerk told me he would call the upstairs room and tell them to quiet down. They did indeed quiet down, for about 10 minutes and then it got 100 times worse. I ended up calling the front desk FOUR times in about an hour and finally I told him I wanted to move rooms because I couldn't stand it anymore. He took pity on me because he knew I was alone with two small children and what a hassle moving at 1AM would be for me. The clerk went upstairs and told the guests to either be quiet or he would call the cops to have them removed (I could hear through the very thin walls/ceiling). They refused to be quiet so they were thrown out. On their way out, they kicked my door and yelled obscenities and threatened my children & I which I promptly reported to the clerk. After the a-holes left, all was quiet and I fell asleep. The same clerk was working all morning and he granted me an extra 5 hours past check-out without charge so my daughter could take her nap. He also apologized profusely about the disturbance and knocked 30% off my bill.
