“Remodeling is a good start, but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

The rooms have been improved with a fridge, carpet, tables and chairs. But in the 2 weeks between the time we booked a King bed, they had replaced ALL the King beds with Queens. "Sorry" was the response.
Another detractor from otherwise decent rooms was the poor lighting and only one bedside table (very inconvenient).
Most rooms have new heaters, but my room's heater didn't work. At at 11p.m. they offered to move us to a different room, and we accepted.
Don't plan on sleeping in. The remodeling is ongoing and workers start at 8 a.m. with Skil saws.
Wifi required a cable. (check one out from the Office, leave a $10 deposit)
Rooms did not have hair dryers. (check one out from the Office, leave a $10 deposit)
Rooms did not have microwaves. (why have a fridge without a microwave?

“Very average but clean.”

We tried Motel 6 first but they were full. We drove a few yards down the street and went through a trailer park so I was not staying anywhere near there!
Saw this place and looked OK, well kept paintwork outside. The room was cheap $58 but is very basic. The A/C is the main thing that needs attention, very noisy and not much good at keeping the room cooler, which is needed in Death Valley! Bed was comfortable but the room is basic and def no frills.
We ate at Ritas which is also no frills but food was OK.

“Good for a night. Has character.”

Much like the Atomic Inn down the street, the Exchange Club has some character for sure. There is a very sweet owner who runs the hotel, and the rooms definitely have a distinct feel to them. I think the Atomic Inn may best Exchange Club when it comes to uniqueness, though. Still, along with the Motel 6, none of these hotels are bad places to crash for the night. Death Valley is just a short drive away. Be warned, though, there are ferocious small town cops watching the town stop sign like hawks. (The fine is close to $200.) Exchange Club was quiet and comfortable, which is just what I needed.

“Cockroach Motel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2009

I only stayed at the beatty motel for a few hours since I did not feel comfortable staying there over night. During that time I saw three cockroaches crawling around the room. You know what they say, for every one cockroach there are thousands more. I felt like they were going to crawl all over me while I slept. The rooms are big with a sofa and fridge, the ac did not work. They really need to fumagate the place.

“basically ok”

my wife and I recently spent 3 nights at the exchange club in order to visit death valley. we are great fans of death valley and all hotels in the park were full. i went to trip advisor and found this place to be the #1 choice in beatty..so i booked it!
THE GOOD: reasonably priced, clean with large rooms
THE NOT SO GOOD: crummy soap products, no shampoo or conditioner, crummy single ply TP which housekeeping did not bother to replenish when it was near gone, bad coffee, staff is not knowledgable reg the park or area in general, heat/cooling system is difficult to adjust, showerheads need cleaning and work poorly. bed is not great
BOTTOM LINE: all these problems are easy to fix. i suggest exchange club invest a little time, energy and money to improve their motel and it could easily be MUCH better. all in all tho an "OK" place.

  • Liked — large reasonably priced rooms
  • Disliked — the fact that they use such cheap crummy products. bed is on last leg
