“Excellent value - spacious rooms - a great place to stay for a few days”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

I almost didn't come to this hotel - I saw a review on google that said this hotel was biased towards "people of color". I'm a person of color. I didn't perceive any bias or racism. On the contrary the owners were enthusiastic, warm, and gracious.

My room was done in pink. Not my favorite color, but it was amusing. The towels matched.
The room is low price compared to the adjacent Best Western. After seeing how packed the BWestern was, and how it seemed to be very haphazardly layed out and designed, I left and checked out the Port Polson Inn and immediately accepted their offer.

I ended up staying 5 days, instead of two. A very comfortable place to stay.

The hotel advertised HBO and continental breakfast. Never could get HBO. The continental breakfast is toast and coffee - nothing very special. Asides from those two nits its a great place to stay. Reasonably useful internet/wireless access.

“Lower Floor rooms are extremely noisy from the highway traffic”

This hotel is not nearly as nice or quite as the Best Western across the street. The service is poor from the front desk to maid service. Don't run out of glasses or anything else if you stay for more than a day. They are not good at replentishing anything. We would not stay again and would recommend the Best Western across the street. It is a lot better property with rates not that much higher.

“great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2010

good location, arrived having driven from yellowstone.... not badly priced for being right on the lake, although the road is in between, the traffic does stop later in the evening though and isnt a problem at all. We had a pink room, which was really lovely, makes a change to have a bit of colour as most hotels/motel seem to stick to drab colours so this felt lovely, piink wall, pink sheets and pink towels, and beautiful sentiments on wall above bed in pictures, all about love :-) bed very spacious and comfy, shower really good, so we sat down and enjoyed the view sitting on the comfy chairs with a glass of red wine (no fridge otherwise it could have been white), grabbed a few mags from the breakfast room and sat and had a lovely evening. Breakfast was ok, we never expect much anyway but there was coffee, juice, milk, cereal, muffins that were there the night before, and a plate of stale sickly looking doughnuts which we passed on so we had some juice and coffee and moved on, lovely place though, we went to the wolf den (pub) had a couple of beers and enjoyed the craic with the bar staff and couple of locals, one of whom bought us both a drink, went to quills after for a burrito wrap and they were good then a walk around the lake before going back to room for evening lovely place very friendly, really enjoyed our stay.

“Haven't even stayed there yet - and already disapointed.”

I made reservations online for myself but decided to call and ask some questions to pass information on to the rest of my family making plans for a family event this summer. The gal who answered the phone had no desire to answer my questions. Since I made my reservations online, I was hooked and she didn't need to bother with me. If you book online, regardless of how far in advance you cancel or request a change, they charge you a 10% fee. I wasn't even interested in changing or canceling my reservation, but since she brought it up and then acted as if that was the end of our conversation, I decided to point out how disappointed I was in their ridiculous business practice. She tried to first pass it off on the company they use for the online booking service. She then stated something along the lines of - don't blame me, I don't own the motel. My frustration is first with employees with no work ethic or understanding of responsibility. Secondly, if the motel believes that online booking is a necessary service then they should incur the cost of it and not pass it off to customers who may need to change or cancel with the best of intentions and plenty of advance notice. At the very least they should guarantee that the online rate is the lowest rate available - which they do not. My recommendation - stay across the street at the Best Western KwaTaqNuk Resort. They have no fees associated with their online booking, better rates, better rooms, and I can only assume better service.

“Smoking Dog Room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2008

Although they have a sign that says, "No pets," when I called to ask about a pet room they asked what kind of pet (45 pound husky) and charged m e $10. The pet rooms are the smoking rooms, so being in my room was like having an ashtray strapped to my face. I could smell the smokey room even before opening the door. Just something to be ready for if you are a pet owner. When I got home the first thing I did was put all my clothes in the laundry and leave my travel bag outside.

The road noise is considerable at this hotel - earplugs are good to have. It is directly on the main north/south highway through this part of the state and although the windows are double-paned, noise still comes through.
