“Awesome winter vacation location.”

We stayed at the Lake Condos the last week of January 2012 and enjoyed our time very much.
The weather was quite chilly but ski conditions were excellent at Big Sky and Moonlight Basin. This resort which is one of the original ones in the Big Sky area is a great location to the slopes. It is also only an hour from Yellowstone National Park where we spent a day snow-mobiling.
We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit for 5 people. We had hoped to get into a loft but they are normally taken so my teenager daughter graciously slept on the sleeper couch and it worked out pretty well. The units are spacious, well maintained and clean. They provide ample supplies for a timeshare unit. I would have liked the option to have housekeeping come in once during the week especially with 5 people. We loved going into the jacuzzi's after skiing and there is a nice size heated pool. I would suggest to the resort that they provide towels for that area in the changing room located next to the hot tubs as you have to use the towels from your unit. Although we enjoyed a street level unit - the people upstairs with young children sounded like they were dancing or jumping on the floors at night which was a little annoying. Normally, it stopped by bedtime which was a good thing.

We also had the honor of meeting the resident beautiful red fox who came by and actually posed for photos. Of course he was rewarded with a pork chop which was certainly his intent. We saw magnificent wildlife on our trip to Yellowstone including moose, coyotes and bison. We have been to Lake Condo's now 3 times and would certainly go back again although you have to book early and often have to take whatever week is open. We believe this to be a great family vacation area for the winter sports.

Room Tip: I recommend the downstairs units if you like to avoid stairs. Higher floors are quieter and have mo...

“Perfect ski week!”

We absolutely loved our week long stay at the Lake Condos! The condo had everything we needed.

Washer/Dryer came in very handy. (yes, bring your own soap or buy in the office for $1 I believe) Fireplace and location to the Mountain Village were #1 amenities. We spent so much time relaxing in front of the fireplace.

The beautiful resident fox came to visit us as we were grilling on the patio. That was an unbelievable experience!

In our unit there are two journals of stories from all of the people that have stayed before us, that was really enjoyable to read as well as informative on where to eat and things to do. (Blue Moon Bakery!!!)

Our unit even had a humidifier which was MUCH appreciated with the dryness. Condo was clean and had everything we needed. Wifi was a bit slow and beds were a little firm for my liking. All in all, wonderful experience. Great resort area, fantastic skiing and met many nice people. We will be back!! :)

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I just wish I had seen the fox that others mentioned! We had so much fun visiting Big Sky for the winter. It's about an hour from bozeman, and three from the northern entrance of Yellowstone (both one way). The skiing here was excellent considering that the rest of the resorts across the country were not getting as much snow. Our unit was a downstairs one, so noise from the children upstairs was an issue. Luckily for us, they went to bed early enough. The unit had all the kitchen utensils we needed. The only toiletry provided were generic bar soap. I'd definitely rec you bring your own toiletries since things are expensive here...and even in Bozeman. WiFi was free, but a little slow...even when not streaming videos. The fireplace was such a huge plus b/c it helped us dry our clothing. There is a washer and dryer unit, but no detergent. The thermostat was temperamental...so you just got to control it by feel. I did not try the hot tub b/c it was cold outside, and I didn't want to run back and forth across the parking strip wet and cold.

I rec you buy groceries in Bozeman before coming to Big Sky. Things are cheaper there. There's a Walmart, Safeway, and a few other grocers...there's even a couple of co-ops if that's your thing. There are restaurants around the resort, but some close during non-peak season...and even during peak season. The locals all rec Bugaboo for breakfast and lunch..unfortunately they were on vacation while we were there. For pizza or bagels, I rec the Blue Moon Bakery...it's definitely moon something. Their northern light pizza was the best thing we ate during our trip. If you rent ski or other snow equipment, I rec eastern slope, since they are so friendly and cheap.

Room Tip: Choose an upstairs unit if at all possible.

“Lovely Visit”

We are just wrapping up Thanksgiving week at Big Sky and the Lake Condominiums. We booked our week on an exchange with RCI. The units are lovely - very nice and well appointed. The units are spacious and the furniture is comfy, clean and nicely maintained. The kitchen was great too - enough cooking supplies, dishes etc for a good sized family. The management staff was friendly and very caring, with movies and popcorn available at the office. All in all, a great place to relax and enjoy a vacation, convenient to skiing, restaurants and fun activities.

Just a couple remarks: We had a bottom unit and suffered with noisy upstairs neighbors. They clomped around and let their kids jump off furniture and run up and down which was very annoying. Even after being asked by management to keep the stomping down and corral this kids, they continued unabated. Do yourself a favor ASK FOR A TOP FLOOR UNIT. Second, the beds are hard and pillows flat. Unless you prefer hard beds, be prepared for some back and shoulder aches in the morning.

We will definitely return, but will get an upstairs unit next time!

Room Tip: Get a top floor unit to avoid noisy upstairs neighbors!

“Great time at Lake Condominiums!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

My family and I just got back from a week at the Lake Condominiums, and I can not tell you what a great time we had. We used the condo as our base to go to Yellowstone each day. It was about a 50 mile drive or so to get to the West entrance of the park, but it's literally just one road for 95% of the way, so it's very easy to get to. We drove a ton on this trip, we literally put over 1000 miles on our rental car in a week, so just be prepared to do a lot of driving, things are pretty spread out around here!

We had a unit with a loft (which had a double bed) and two bedrooms, two full baths, a dining room/kitchen area and a family room, which was right on the edge of the lake. Being from the East Coast, we were not quite prepared for the jaw dropping scenery that we encountered, it was truly amazing. The condo was great, very clean and taken care of, with a nice fireplace, two decks, and the full kitchen was stocked with just about every kitchen gadget you would need. The decor was rustic and comfortable. Our fireplace would not work when we first got there, but we informed the office and someone came out right away and fixed the problem.

Our only very minor (and I mean minor) complaint was that there was not a coffee packet with the coffee maker. In most hotels/condos they give you one to start off with. It's not a big deal, obviously, but we had to go our first morning without coffee, and that can be a scary experience! They did have the filters though, so that was good. So if you need your coffee first thing in the morning, make sure to bring it with you!

There were two tvs, and the one in the family room area was a flat screen and had a DVD/VCR combo, which was also nice. Actually, I'm pretty sure the other tv had a DVD/VCR combo as well. They have a good selection of movies at the office that you can rent for $1.00 each. There weren't very many newer releases, but we were able to see several movies we'd never seen before. There's plenty of choices for both kids and adults alike. They also have many board games and puzzles that you can borrow for free.

I had read an earlier review before we left that recommended buying groceries in Bozeman (or wherever you fly into) instead of Big Sky. So we did this, and I think it was a great idea. The food was cheaper in Bozeman, so I recommend stocking up before you come to the resort (don't forget sugar and creamer for your coffee!) There is a little grocery store at the foot of the mountain not far from the resort, which we did visit several times, but the food was more expensive there.

All soap items were provided except for shampoo and laundry detergent. They do have detergent available at the office for $1.00 if you need it. The washer and dryer were pretty small, so you couldn't do big loads, but they worked just fine. The dishwasher also worked fine.

They have a salt water heated outdoor pool (which we never used, but it looked very nice) and two large sized hot tubs, which we used every day. It was very relaxing, and the one night we were sitting in it and it started snowing, so that was kind of a unique experience. There are also bathrooms located at the pool/hot tub complex, which is nice because then you don't have to run back to your room if you have to go.

One of our favorite things about the resort were the three resident red foxes that were there. We didn't feed them because you're not supposed to feed wildlife, but they would literally get within like 5 feet of you. They were very tame and cute, my step daughter wanted to take one home :)

You can fish in the lake, but I don't know if you need a Montana fishing license or not, this would be something you would need to check into before you came.

There is a computer with internet access in the office that you can use free of charge, so if you need to check email and don't want to drag along your laptop, this works well. If you do have your computer, the units do have free wi-fi.

Like I said, we had a great time and would definitely recommend this condo. There are places to stay much closer to Yellowstone, but we truly enjoyed our stay here and would come back.

Room Tip: Ask for one right on the lake, the view is spectacular!
