“It exactly suited our needs, was a great experience!”

We had multiple family members coming from all across the country for a military graduation of our older daughter - we stayed 4 nights. We rented the 4 bdrm villa with 3 full baths because we had 5 adults and 4 children under 8, with guests coming in at various times. We also needed a place that was pet friendly (we brought our two dogs with us). All I can say, is though the property may be older, the "villa" was perfect (perfectly appointed, perfectly clean and perfect staff). The staff was great from my initial phone contact up until the moment we left. The villa is roomy, even the bedrooms were roomy and we envied the closet space. We had virtually 4 laptops running at all times, great WIFI. Down to minor details (because we did some cooking/grilling while we were there - a LOT) of things you don't think to bring in kitchen essentials...it was there. Surprised totally....."I need a strainer, cutting board, special knife, cookie sheet, large pot, grill utensils"....all supplied. BTW the grill is gas, was spotlessly clean and we are strange about using grills other than our own. We normally stay in more high end type hotels, but for what we needed for family reunion/place to meet, it was GREAT! Way better than say a residence type hotel and MUCH larger...it was a temporary home and everyone had plenty of space including space for the kids to play. It was a summer month so we enjoyed the outdoor pool. Again older facility, but the pool is large, was never crowded while we were there, most of the time we had to ourselves - CLEAN. The kids had a fabulous time. Some other "nicer" hotels have more luxurious emenities, but almost always the pool is SMALL or indoors and the staff is indifferent. It was a nice change. Can't say enough about the courteous and reliable staff and we had some different requests due to having the pets/kids at the premises and they fully accommodated us in everything including when we had one snafu. It was immediately remedied. Now, the villas are across a pretty major highway from the office/pool and some of the golf course, but just a few shorts steps down and over. We did not have time to golf, but the course looked well manicured and pleasant. All residents of the villa got free breakfast buffet coupons for the duration. On this, I must say, it was a disappointment and we only ate one breakfast there. But I really can't complain because when you have a fully equipped kitchen/grill, cook what you LIKE!!! That was my first visit to MO due to necessity. Couldn't have picked a better place to stay and though I don't know I'll visit MO again, I might have to just to go spend a few days at Dogwood Hills where there is plenty of room and all are comfortable. BTW, if you don't need the whole villa, they can accomodate the area you need as the upper floor rooms can be blocked off to house other guests. So if you just want the downstairs master with the kitchen...still room for kids with roll away and sleeper sofa, it is cheaper. Best stay for the price. Saved us a ton rather than renting 3-4 rooms and being crowded with no amenities...LOVED IT!!!

“It was ok”

The room was clean however the motel needs many things updated such as painting, the carpet was worn.We were suppose to have a refrigerator and microwave and did not have either. The breakfast deal was ok as far as the food, however the service was very bad. The first day the server was by herself and it took 1 1/2 hours for us to get our food and then some of the food was not even brought to us. The second day service was a little faster but now they were short on kitchen help and again we did not receive all of our food and one member of our party got food she did not even order. The server has to do everything including getting ice and things for the golfers and should have help. I think the owners are to blame for this and they should be there to help when help is needed and have someone else handle all the golfers needs instead of the servers. It was clear that the place suffers from bad management. I don't know if this place is owned by the motel or not but the motel should bring it to the owners attention because it can make a decent stay a bad one. I don't know if I would stay again.

“A Funny Thing Happened...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2011

I recently stayed at the Dogwood for the first time and it was quite a thrill! The room was nice and very clean. It has a direct entry from outside which I don't consider to be the safest option, but you have a walk through room to a set of sliding glass doors and an outdoor patio or deck overlooking the pool and hot tub. Very nice! The beds were comfortable, but cheap linens and pillows are to be expected.

The staff was very friendly. My only problem was that they didn't want to give me the free breakfast that I thought was included when I made the reservation. They told me that the free breakfast was not included in the dirt cheap rate that I booked. I agreed since I had indeed booked a dirt cheap rate, but I went back to the room and looked it up on-line and the listing did include a breakfast. I went back to the office and explained what I found and told them that I wasn't asking for breakfast if it truly wasn't included, but that they needed to know that the website and reservation system stated that breakfast was included. That's when the floodgates of comical weak excuses opened up. First they told me that booking the room through an on-line source was the cause of the error. I told them I booked it through their own website. Then they said it was the fault of the website design/host. I said. "OK" I really didn't want anything I wasn't entitled to. The clerk (owner?) offered to give me free breakfast passes anyway but insisted I wasn't entitled to them even though she looked it up on-line and found what I was telling her was true. I reluctantly agreed to take the passes and then she apologized for not remembering how many were in my party. When I told her "three" I thought she was going to faint. I made the mistake of volunteering that it was one adult and two children and she jumped at the chance to tell me that children were not entitled to a free breakfast and a single breakfast pass was flung into my hands before I could begin to chuckle at the ridiculousness of the entire encounter.

I had already reviewed the menu in the room and decided that I was going to have breakfast at their restaurant even if I had to pay for it. The most expensive thing on the menu was Eggs Benedict with coffee and hash browns for $7.95! Everything else was $5.95 or less. They bragged about how everything was made in their own restaurant and how good it was. I believed them.

I went to the restaurant and I was not at all disappointed. Great breakfast. That's when I found out there are breakfast passes and then there are express breakfast passes. Of course, I had the express pass and it was only good for a few items on the menu that were priced at $3.99. I had another chuckle about this and how insane this woman was that I not get 10 cents more than what SHE thought I was entitled to.

I travel to the lake area about 6 times a year and I look forward to staying at the Dogwood again. At the very least I will stay close by and have breakfast there every morning!

“Be Sure To Book Online!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2011

Yes, this is a decent place to stay. Do not, however, bank on getting the online rate when you check in. The clerk was very courteous about it, but still did not honor the online rate when we checked in, which was over $20 cheaper a night. Most places, I feel, should honor that, especially when you show the clerk the rate, right there on your smart phone.
Bottom line, if you want the lower rate, book your room online, not over the phone or in person.

“Villa was clean, spacious and was a great value for the price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2010

We were very pleased with the service and the staff was very accomodating. The villa was extremely spacious, clean and quiet. It's great for a large family with children or even two small families. It was a great place to come back to after a day golfing or on the lake. Outdoor deck with grills were nice for hosting a big family. Also allows pets for nominal fee.
