“A good mid-range option in Paracas - close to everything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

This modern hotel had pretty standard rooms that appeared well maintained with firm, new-looking beds. Most rooms had small balconies that faced ocean-side. The hotel was only a 5-minute walk to the main section of town. The restaurant serves a good breakfast buffet - included in the room price - to get you started before tackling the Ballestas Islands or the Reserve. Many of the hotels in the area seemed outrageously overpriced for what you got and where you were. This was a good deal - about $60 - $70 for a room and breakfast.

“Reasonable place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2011

Spent one night to see Paracas national park and Islas Ballestas. The hotel is reasonable. Clean, close to the Cruz del Sur bus stop and the boat quey. The town is very small anyway. Islas Ballestas is a must see. Paracas is interesting but not essential. No more than one night is necessary. There is really nothing else to do.

“Great value and location, nothing fancy, great mid-range option”

We got a room for $60 (waaay better than the $360 the luxury Hotel Paracas from across the street charges), which included breakfast. There was free internet (one PC at the lobby, wifi throughout certain areas of the hotel) and the hotel lobby can set you up with any Paracas Tours at very reasonable prices (40 soles per person for Islas Ballestas).

We got room 301, great ocean views, but there was no elevator (although luggage boys offered to assist us with carrying the luggage up). No AC in the room, but there was a great breeze and a good fan was provided. Bed was very comfortable (queen size, several nice firm pillows), cute balcony/terrace area with chairs and table. The room as very spacious, relatively new furniture. The bathroom was a bit older, but still clean and with good towels. Soap, shampoo and a hair dryer provided. Overall quite clean and comfortable (not luxury, but definitely a steal for the price).

Pool area is a bit small, but people seeme d to be enjoying it.

The restaurant (Wayra) was pretty decent (nothing too gourmet, but they had a pretty decent selection of food, very reasonably priced), and it was definitely nice to have a food option right inside the hotel. The breakfast selection was good (instant coffee, though), several fruit juices, a few fruit platters (watermelon, plneapple, apples, oranges, bananas), french toast, eggs, toast and bread... served from 7 to 9:30 am.

The only issue I had was with noise. People honk their horns to get into the courtyard (where the parking area is)... even at 3 am. We had some noisy drunk people linger while parking their car... a bit of a problem for me (more of a light sleeper), but my husband didn't seem to mind.

A modern hotel about five minutes walk from the centre of Paracas with views of the sea. There were things about this place I liked - a large comfortable bed, a balcony overlooking the bay, a powerful shower, a large TV - but it wasn't worth the money ($60-$80 a night is quite expensive for Peru). We paid extra to have a jacuzzi in the room, which looked great but stank like a stagnant pond. It also sounded like the motor was about to explode and was so noisy we couldn't chat when it was on - no doubt we also annoyed our neighbours as the hotel is badly sound proofed (they got their revenge in the morning by getting up at six and being extremely noisy). We ate in the restaurant at night - a soulless place that is badly lit, but the food was OK. However the waiter was so drunk that several times I thought he was going to fall over. More annoying than drunken waiters and mediocre surroundings was being charged 20 soles for the worst pisco sour I've had in Peru. Not only was it warm and badly made (I believe in the old days barmen were put against a wall and shot for making bad pisco sours, a law I feel should be brought back), but I had a point of comparison as I drank the perfect pisco sour several soles cheaper next day at the Hilton in beautiful surroundings served by efficient staff. Breakfast next day was very mediocre - instant coffee, rubbery rolls and dry scrambled eggs. The least you'd expect at this price is decent coffee and warm tasty bread. I would only recommend this place if everywhere else in your price range is full or you can get a discount on the price (try for between half and two thirds of list price). Remember not to drink the pisco sours, take a taxi to the Hilton instead. If you can't get a discount on the room and you're on a budget, try somewhere else in town or If you can afford it, go to the Hilton.
