We decided to stay here to break up a train journy from Trondheim and what a great decision this was.The setting is superb, not quite in the middle of nowhere but nearly so. The inn is timbered throughout and furnished in high quality traditional style. The major surprise however was to find such fine dining in so remote a spot. The food was imaginative and up to the standard of any top city restaurant. Expensive, but then this is Norway; they don't do cheap!

I have stayed at Kongsvold Fjellstuer three times totally, and I hope there will be more occations.

This is not the average hotel, and room standard is simple. Buildings are old, and the rooms are spread around in different buildings. But keep in mind that these tradtional houses have been renovated and upgraded while keeping the traditional style. So you get uniqeness for your money, more than comfort. But although a road goes close by, this is the norwegian countyside and rooms are very quiet.

Location is rare, so is the hospitality by the hosts and their staff. So, if you treasure closeness to breathtaking nature more than room standard, this should definitely be a pick while travelling in Norway.

The really great thing about this hotel is their food - so you definitely should try out their lunch and/or dinner while staying. It is a bit pricy, but well worth it. Breakfast I find to more average, but charmingly different from hotels.

We spent there one night in August '07. The hotel is the starting point for a popular musk ox tour on the Dovrefjell.

The hotel looks nice from the outside so we decided to stay. The room we were given was nice and cosy on first sight but even for Norwegian standards rather pricey.

Well, it didn't have a TV, but we wanted to see the oxen anyway, so we didn't miss it all too much. Everything was more or less ok until people moved in next door. The walls are paper thin and you can literally understand every single spoken word. Thus falling asleep is next to impossible as long as your neighbour's still awake. We complained at the reception and were given another room that was located in a different building. So we had to move house with all our stuff at midnight.

Breakfast next morning was buffet style, tasty and with a wide range of Norwegian products, but we couldn't really appreciate it due to too little sleep.

Internet access is provided at the reception, but with the highest rates I've ever come across in Norway. No sleep, no decent value for money - no happy customers.
