All, in all, not a terrible stay. My fiance & I were looking for an "authentic" route 66 spot to stay for the night. We checked in @ the wagon wheel. True, the location was authentic historic route 66 location . As was the old neon roadside sign (unlit throughout the night as far as we could tell).
The employee who checked in @ about 4:45pm was courteous & most helpful in helping us select a place for dinner.
The exterior of the buildings looked "authentic" enough. Clean, solid, if not a little cute. However a several inch thick of ice sat on the doorway of the room. Luckily we were able to flip the mat sideways to as to limit chances of falling.
Interior: an obvious home depot quickie. Very clean, but absolutely nothing in the room was original or even period (if the monroe graphics are any indication, one would suppose 50s) and the room lacked any rug or carpet. Sure the wood was shiny and glossy but not inviting for the winter traveler.
In the morning, housekeeping greeted us and entered our room as we were leaving. Just then someone we inferred to be the owner (she did not introduce herself at all) drove up next to our car and jestured for me to roll down our window. When i complied i was greeted with a very curt "WHY IS THE DOOR OPEN?! Whats going on? Why is the DOOR OPEN". After i explained about housekeeping, she seemed to calm down. Her response was only "Oh, SHES NEVER ON TIME! Glad to see she is finally doing her job on time!"
The owner asked nothing of our stay or even a "have a good day" or anything before she hurriedly drove up the driveway.
Harrassment for $70 a night. No thanks, never again..
