Based on earlier reviews of this hotel, I didn't know what to expect when I got there. What I found was a courteous staff, and a very quiet and clean hotel. The hotel used to be a Holiday Inn training center, which accounts for its layout. The convention center portion of the hotel seemed very active with local business associations, but the actual rooms were separate from the convention center area. The actual rooms were dated, but the furnishings have been updated. My room had a very comfortable king sized bed, mini fridge, microwave, pullout couch, new TV, desk and dresser. Most importantly for me, it was clean and very quiet.
Breakfast was included and was a standard hotel breakfast. But the dining area was clean and quiet.
There are several restaurants within a very close walking distance including several fast food joints, Japanese, Chinese, two Mexican and a BBQ place. Unlike a lot of places around Memphis, the neighborhood was safe to walk around in.
Whispering Woods is owned and operated by the nearby Fairfield Inn. They share a very effective shuttle van service.
Bottomline, it wasn't fancy but I needed a quiet, clean and safe hotel with a reliable shuttle service. I found it.
