“Standard Stay_DvB”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

Taken in context, this hotel is really nice. The city is not a bustling metroplex and several prominent hotel chain brands do not have a single representative property in the whole state. This is one of the better hotels in the city unless you have a very small group to stay at a boutique bed & breakfast.

Having stayed here several years ago for business purposes, I expected to be familiar with the hotel. I certainly was able to navigate as it doesn’t seem like too much has actually changed. The furniture seems a bit dated and the overall style of the hotel is classic. In the lobby it’s very attractive. In the guest rooms, it’s a little disappointing. My thought is, if you’re just going to sleep in the room and maybe watch the weather in the morning, it’s great. If you’re taking a date/having an anniversary, I’d suggest one of the boutique properties in the area.

The rates are a little high for the region, but when you compare to the other options nearby, they could probably charge more. .. where else are you going to host an event? This trip was not business related so I did not have a set agenda. Who cares, you ask. If you’ve been around you know that hotels adhere to varied cleaning schedules. It was nice to know that the cleaning crew didn’t knock on my door until around 11am. Definitely good for sleeping in… though I was on the 14th of 15 floors so perhaps it was my location not the staff courtesy. There is a train a couple of miles away, but I only heard it during the day.
The location allowed me to walk comfortably to many of the best touring destinations, like the Governor’s Mansion. They charge for parking. Don’t cry about it unless you have some physical impairment. There’s ample parking which I availed myself of for three days with no ticket or issue. This area is well lit so it seemed fairly improbable that someone would vandalize my rental car. I also overstayed the 2- hour limit all three days (moving the car to a new spot every few hours can be inconvenient) and did not anyone get a ticket for the same. The proximity to the Capitol and a law school may help keep the officers subdued.

Do your research on where you’ll need to be since not everything is exactly downtown. You can still easily and quickly make it to the suburbs if you have a car… which is usually cheaper than taking a taxi in Jackson, and the city is easy to navigate.

“Nice staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011 via mobile

Overnighted here for work. Nice place, subway and chic-fil-a across the street, along with a regions atm. However both restaraunts close very early- 3pm! Guess because it's a business building? Rooms were clean. The staff was extremely nice and gave our to-go boxes for breakfast!

“Old hotel with nice staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011 via mobile

As the other reviews make clear, this is an older hotel, BUT for a business traveler it gets the job done. Upon arrival, the bellman was very friendly, asked if I needed help/where I was from, and walked me up to the reception desk. Every bellman was as equally helpful each time I left or returned. A broken lightbulb in my room was fixed within 10 mins if reporting it. Room service food was good for dinner and breakfast, although they didn't actually have what I wanted to order from the menu for dinner. The person who took my order was helpful in suggesting another meal for me. The downtown location is great and I would stay here again.

“Not up to Par”

When we pulled up in the front of the hotel, the door/bellman just starred at us. No help.......NONE! The Marriott family is my hotel chain of choice in the US and I usually get great service but this was a bad sign. When checking in, the desk clerk was argumentative, This is a self park and the parking garage is a crime waiting to happen. It is dim and poorly lit with very few directional/instructional sign, i.e. What floor am I on???Where are the elevators?????
The room was decent but antiquated screaming for an update. The internet didn't work so I had to call the argumentative front clerk who was no help. After crawling under the desk, I found the cables disconnected. And lastly the room service (Breakfast) gave us preserves with the seals broken, I guess they recycle other guest's food. The bed was good and the view of Jackson was nice but it didn't make up for all the problems. Not Recommended!

“Poor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

Thought that with the name Marriot we were looking forward to a full service hotel and restaurant, wrong, the restaurant was no better than a fast food cafe, only not fast because they only had one poor member of staff running round trying to serve everyone,
Location ok if you want to be in the middle of Jackson, but a bit run down and intimidating.
