I wanted to reveiw this motel because there isn't really many on here with much detail. With my AAA discount I paid approximately 1/2 of what the hotel that my conference was at was charging. It would have been a somewhat nicer hotel but not worth the extra sixty bucks for me. The positives - large clean room that even had a sofa with cable and fast wireless internet. It also had a small refrigerator and microwave along with the usual coffee pot/ironing board/hair dryer. All appliances worked well including the A/C. There was a continental breakfast included but I did not go to it (b/c had breakfast at conference) The staff was polite - I would not say they were friendly but that could be more of a cultural thing and I really don't require friendliness anyway. Some people reviewing other nearby hotels on this site stated they felt unsafe - I did not feel unsafe in this area and am not sure why other people felt that way. If you are familiar with Jackson, it is across the highway from the State Fair Grounds. The negatives - the pool is small which I already expected based on photograph and that wasn't a problem for me. However, it was really dirty - I don't know if it was a fluke or if this is usual. It seemed like there was an amazingly huge amount of some kind of oil (hair grease?) in it. I haven't ever seen anything like it. It was disappointing (but didn't ruin my stay) because I was looking forward to swimming and I also couldn't tell that it was like this until I got in it. My non smoking room was on the side closest to the interstate (which with the air on, I could not hear) and this had a car lot adjacent to it. The car lot had very bright security lights and it was impossible to get my room dark at night. For some people like my husband this would not be an issue, but for me, it was hard to sleep with so much light. It had a small bathroom with a leaky faucet. The only other issue for me is that I have allergies to fragrances and they used strong fragrances to clean the room. But they did clean it and did a good job. Oh, the bed wasn't the best or the worst. I would say it was medium - not really hard but not really soft and it seemed pretty old as much of the furnishings were. That didn't bother me, but it might some. I also happened to need to stay another night and they let me at the same rate. I had already checked online and the rate was more so that was nice and appreciated. Overall, I was satisfied with my stay at this motel.
Not a very nice hotel. It's good we only spent one night there.
The Internet connection was terribly bad, actually nonexistent.
I did laundry there and the place where the washing machine and the dryer are located was dirty, dark and hot. I couldn't turn the light on to see what I was doing because according to the person at the front desk "the lights turn on automatically" so she couldn't do anything. The machine that was supposed to provide detergent was broken. I had to go to go to a grocery store to buy some.
While staying at this hotel, I've never experienced a more rude staff. While checking in the front desk clerk (the owner's wife) was cancelling a reservation for a customer over the phone and she would not give them a cancellation number. When hanging up the phone she had the nerve to call the customer that just called a S.O.B and not by the initials. Her reasoning was "they call to stay and then they call to cancel, I don't like". During my stay she told me to quit walking around the hotel. Mind you, I was walking from my room to the pool. In addition, she couldn't figure out how to work the credit card machine properly and told me that I didn't have any money and was incredibly rude and wouldn't try to call someone to help her. Ended up staying at the hotel because for the price, the rooms were clean and there was wireless, but checked out early due to her inability to work the credit card machine. Very, very rude to customers and is open that you are inconveniencing her by asking her for anything. I do not recommend to those that value customer service.
