“Adequate, but Could be Better!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2010

We've stayed here several times over the years on trips down to bike and canoe the Root River. It's in a convenient location for those activities. The closeness to hiway 52 does create some vehicle noise that you can hear in the rooms. We had the luxury suite this trip. It was decorated very boudoir tacky. It was a basically comfortable enough for our family of 3. The price was reasonable. They forgot to give us shampoo and soap, but did bring some up to the room when we called. The place really could use some remodeling to update the dirty carpet and tile. The breakfast was pretty poor, stale breads, cereal not real appetizing even for free. Went across the road to the bowling alley and they actually had a very nice breakfast with lots of local color. The hotel has deteriorated a bit from our first visits. I hope they remodel because I do enjoy staying there. Not many choices in this area.

“Just OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2010

We stayed at Country Trails Inn out of necessity to be close to another city for a family event. It was just OK. We stayed in a suite and it was clean except for some dirt in the bottom of our whirlpool tub. The breakfast was very basic and the bagels and english muffins were inedible--too hard to bite into. But it was OK for the price and front desk was accommodating.

“Not a good value for the money!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2009

I stayed at this hotel in July, 2009. I could not find a place in Lansboro that would accept children ages 9 & 11.  This town is within 8 miles of Lansboro...so we stayed here and drove to Lansboro.

The hotel looks really nice from the outside.  I agree with one of the previous reviews...it resembles a Super 8 hotel.  Except that Super 8's have coffee makers in the rooms.  At the Country Trails you have to go to the desk and ask for a coffee maker...why?  Another thing not offered in the room was a iron and ironing board, another item that you had to request at the desk!

The rooms were VERY basic. The breakfast was even more basic...the cereal must have been generic brand because both my children complained about the taste.  We all went away hungry after the breakfast and had to stop by 10:00 to eat again.

The pool had way too chemicals in it and my daughters eyes were hurting for hours afterwards. I felt really sorry for her because her eyes watered for at least 4 hours. It ruined her evening! The hot tub was warm at best. They did have a pool table for guest to use for $1.50 per game.

It wasn't the worst hotel...but for the price we paid, it could have been alot better. The kids and I agreed that we won't be staying here next year when we come back to the area.

“CountryTrails Inn & Suites Not so Hot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2009

We traveled to the Bluff Country area for a two day get-a-way with friends on May 20, 21 staying two nights. When I made reservations the first part of March, I requested two rooms across from each other on 1st floor. When we arrived at 12:30pm 5/20/09, we were given rooms 102 & 114 at opposite ends of the Motel. I asked the desk clerk if we could be moved closer, I was told all rooms were full and the guests had checked in. Well check in time is 3:00pm (our rooms were ready at 12;30pm) I asked to see the manager, but the manager was out how convenient. I told the desk clerk I wished to speak with the manager when he came in. This never happened He did not even leave me note! some manager . The rooms as stated in there web site were all remodled in 2008, If #102 was any example change remodelers. Our room was a dump with dirty carpert, some kind of stains on the both chairs, dirty & moldly floor in the toilet area, loose toilet & seat (The seat was replaced) after I requested it. And it looks as if the floor was never vacuum in this room. The desk personal that I had contact with were not one bit helpful. I will not recommend this place to any one and we will never stay here in the future. By the way we were told that all rooms were taken when asking for a change, then why was the parking almost empty at 11:30pm on a Wednesday & Thursday night? They take the meaning of customer service to a new low.

“Clean, helpful staff, much like a Super 8”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2008

The Country Trails is located in Preston surrounded by Agribusiness-type facilitites. They didn't appear to be a problem for either noise or smell, but the setting was definitely not quaint. The hotel is relatively new, clean, and the pool/hot tub are typical size for hotels. It struck me as being a small step up from a Super 8; functional but not luxurious.

The description and pictures I saw of the Country Trails Inn and Suites from the web, gave me the impression of a Northern Minnesota lodge type accomodation. My husband and I were looking for a romantic get away, and this wasn't quite it.

After checking in and spending 30 minutes deciding what to do, we went back to checkout, with little expectation of a refund. Without us even having to ask, they cheerfully credited us for the night we had paid for and cancelled our reservation for the next night.

If you want to stay in Preston, as opposed to some of the other more quaint towns on the trail, and you are looking for a hotel/motel as opposed to a B&B type, this property could be a good fit. The staff certainly were top notch.
