“Loved Northern Lights Lodge”

Our family (6 people, 4 dogs!) traveled to Ely over Christmas break to go sled dogging. We chose to stay two nights at Northern Lights Lodge because it is pet-friendly and has stellar reviews. We were not disappointed! Absolutely loved Northern Lights Lodge! We stayed in two suites and both were squeaky clean with fabulous winter views of the lake. Marie's great customer service really came thru too. We locked our keys in the van accidentally on the way to the sled dog trip. She called the tow truck company, looked for their own "unlock" tool, and also called Chilly Dogs to let them know we were going to be a bit late. That kind of service just does not happen much anymore. Highly recommend, we hope to be back soon! Knapp family

“Amazing views, make way to amazing resort, and amazing people and animals”

We traveled up to Ely to enjoy a couple of nights away from the cities with our boys. No phones, laptops or technology. From the moment I scheduled the get-away with Marie, I felt drawn to Northern Lights. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed by Marie, the dogs, and the other lodgers. Our boys took a liking to Pepper & Daisy, as we'd left our bulldog at home. As we explored the resort, we quickly connected with two couples that had traveled up from IL & WI. Very sweet people, but what else would I expect from such a warm and welcoming place. Our boys (highschoolers) both felt comfortable and took advantage of the waterfront. Taking the paddle boat out the first evening we arrived as my husband and I read books while looking out across the water to the most beautiful sun setting in the sky. I believe we stayed in cabin #3 which has been remodeled. It was super cute. We will definitely be back! Thank you Marie! You were a sweatheart and our youngest definitely appreciate your willingness to let him play with the dogs and come and go from the lodge.

Room Tip: cabin #3 has been renovated. It sleep 2 kids and 2 married adults comfortably

“Aurora Borealis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Excellent stay at Northern Lights Lodge. This time we stayed in one of the 1 bedroom suites. It was perfect in every way and we even got to see the aurora borealis twice! I can't speak highly enough of the resort. Last time we stayed in one of the classic cabins and this week we tried one of the suites. Wow! Spacious, clean, furnished so nice, the kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. We spent our days canoeing or kayaking and the sauna and jetted bath felt great at the end of the day. The fire place is nice but the weather was warm so we really didn't get to use it much. Enjoyed several bonfires at the edge of the lake which was very nice and relaxing. It is so easy to forget what true peace and quiet is. Sitting at the lake watching the stars, listening to a owl, the loons and jumping fish splashing in the dark. Bugs? There weren't any!

Thank you again to Marie and Gary for another wonderful stay. We couldn't ask for more gracious hosts. Daisy was wonderful as always and great company on our walks.

Room Tip: We stayed in a 1 bedroom suites, star gazing is better from the deck for the 2 bedroom suites but th...

“Excellent quick stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

We stayed here in suite #7 for one evening only trying the different lodging up in the boundary waters for future vacations. We are a couple in our upper 20's with a small yorkie that we brought up from the Twin Cities area. Pets are not only allowed, but also welcomed. We got to know the two dogs of the property and had no issues with them as they are well mannered and got along with our dog.

Our first impression was excellent, the 1 bedroom suite is in almost new condition even though they were done in 2006(?). The view was very picturesque and was elevated above most other cabins so you do have to walk down to the lake front if that's an issue for you. It contains a kitchen with everything needed, small dining table, living room, fireplace, and separate bedroom and bathroom. There are no tvs, which is the idea since we wanted to get closer to nature. The weather didn't cooperate when we were there with thunderstorms rolling in, but we still enjoyed our time there.
Marie was wonderful in what little time we had with her, she recommended restaurants, activities, and was available for anything.
Ely, MN was the closest "city" to us which offered a row of tourist shops for clothes, knick-knacks, restaurants, etc. We ate at Evergreen, Britton's, Burnstside Lodge, and Stony Ridge- and all were excellent.

The next time I would probably rent a full cabin and wouldn't hesitate recommending this to anyone who wants to get away into nature in the boundary waters while still keeping many amenaties that we are used to.

“The perfect place for an escape!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2011

Found Northern Lights Lodge as a last minute escape. Was hoping things would be as good as the seemed on their web site... turns out it was better than I could have imagined. Lots of open space, Beautiful scenery, friendly owners who made sure everything was right. We didn't rent a full cabin but instead chose one of their suites. Again, very nice and almost as good as staying in a cabin. Thanks Marie for getting us on the dog sled ride too!
