“A True Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

I visited with a friend for a quick getaway. We stayed at three places and this was our first. It was by far the very best in every way. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and given a tour of the Inn. Our room was wonderful. Well appointed, luxury linens, gorgeous fire place, wine in the chiller for us and more. We also had dinner at the Inn. The chefs are very talented making every course an event. We will be both return with our husbands to enjoy the Inn again.

The wine tasting was also well done, with excellent wines and cheeses.

“Amazing place to stay - very romantic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

The rooms were really nice - we stayed two nights and got to check out most of the rooms as some point and they are all amazing. The breakfast was 5 star - not only did it look amazing, but it tasted wonderful. The owner came to breakfast and talked about the winery and how it got started. Very friendly and you were made to feel like family. The grounds are beautiful as well. Great location if you want to go wine tasting in the area. We really enjoyed this wineries wines, but also enjoyed Gill's Pier and Shady Lane wines!

“A Stay to Remember”

My husband and I love the Traverse City area so after we got engaged last summer we visited a handful of venues for our wedding and BSF stood out above the rest. We loved the setting and knew as soon as we saw it that it was where we wanted to get married. We had our ceremony and reception at BSF last weekend with 50+ guests. The staff (especially Kelly and Jill) was very welcoming and went out of their way to make our weekend extraordinary. Our guests are saying it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to. A beautiful place to get married!!!

“One of the Best”

My wife and I stay at BSF for our anniversary every December for the last 7 years. (been married 13) We can't say enough how nice this place is we have stayed in several different rooms and have enjoyed everyone, Atlas being our favorite. We have also made the trek up there from Chicago in July and Sept as well and all though a little more crowded still love it!
The innkeepers make you feel at home and the gourmet breakfasts are wonderful and not to be missed. They also cater to my wife's picky eating habits! Coffee is always fresh in morning and thru out the day, nice when you have been out snow shoeing all day.
Wine reception is always nice with a wide selection of wines to drink and creative appetizers from their great chefs, hiking thru out the vineyard is always a plus no matter what the season... Tastings in the winery and the cheese from the cheese makers on site what else could you ask for on a weekend away from reality!

“One of the best places in the world!”

My husband and I just left the Black Star Inn and we cannot stay enough wonderful things about this place. The staff are the friendliest people you will meet. The rooms are absolutely spotless (and I am SO picky). Ask for the Atlas Room - beautiful room with an enormous bathroom. The Inn is situated on a farm in Sutton Bay, but it also is a winery and a cheese manufacturer. The breakfasts are out of this world ( who gets Tenderloin Steak for Breakfast?). and the "reception hour" is wonderful food and wines from the vineyard from 5:30 - 6:30. The wine at Black Star was the best out of the 14 wineries in the region! I have never written a review with trip advisor, but I always read reviews before I stay - I cannot tell you how wonderful this place is. GO!
