“Overhyped”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My girlfriend and I normally stay at another Saint Joseph hotel, but we decided to give the Boulevard a try because we love the Bistro, and the lobby is really, really nice.

Well, the rooms are only so-so. I don't know why locals seem to think it's the best hotel in the universe. The ambiance of the rooms is mediocre. And yes, we did have problems with the clogged and sandy drains. I mean, you are already walking distance to a fantastic beach, you certainly don't need your own mini beach in the bath tub.

The room was clean, though, and the service adequate, if maybe a little bit on the snooty side...

“Sublime Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

The location makes it a "Very Good" rating. We rented the one bedroom suite for the night and it was a very comfortable size for a family of four. The bedroom was huge. The outer room was a living room/dining room/kitchen combo that was also very spacious, and the couch pulled out into a bed. The full-sized refrigerator was nice. The microwave sat on the table (there was no stove), so you couldn't really have a meal at the table.

The pros: Location, location, location (VERY close to the water and town attractions). Roomy. Clean. We loved being that close to the beach and so many other places that we could easily have walked to, if we wanted.

The cons: You have to walk through the bedroom to get to the only bathroom, so if someone is sleeping they are not likely to be doing so for long any time someone needs to use the restroom/shower/vanity.

The drain in the bathtub did not drain, so a shower turned ugly quick. Sand spit from the drain (likely being so close to the beach, a lot of sand gets unwittingly into the drain) and was a bit annoying.

Breakfast was a mess. Tickets were issued but not even checked. I saw staff drop a thick paper-filled book and a stack of papers (which could have made someone fall if they slipped on it, easily) off of the hostess podium and leave it there...then I saw many employees walk over the stack. I even saw one waitress deliberately step over it to get to something she wanted. I finally went and picked it up.

The bar closed VERY early. When you're on the beach and coming in, a drink, or juice for the kids to take to their room would be nice...we had to run to the gas station to get drinks (not far away).

The price seemed way too high for a suite, considering...

The cons seem more plentiful than the pros, but it really wasn't a bad place to stay. It was quiet, clean, and had the perfect location. Would I go back? I am undecided. I might try another location instead, and if that didn't pan out, return to The Boulevard on a subsequent trip.

“Comfortable Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

I stopped here for three nights on business trip, booked in by our suppliers. Huge room and comfortable bed, from a European perspective room decor was a little old fashioned. Breakfast was OK, OJ not watered down. Had one evening meal in the resturant which was very good. Nice position, wish I'd had more free time to explore Saint Joseph

Room Tip: Rooms on the front get the full blast of the railway whistles, pick one at the back no view but a be...

“On the Park”

the Boulevard provides a much more than adequate stay in a great setting - decent size clean suite, complete complimentary hot breakfast, parking AND on the park overlooking Lake Michigan! Saturday Farmer's market, activities on the park/beach at the bottom of the ridge, bike riding/walking choices; great for a night's stay or longer!

Room Tip: city side and weekdays slightly less expensive

“What a Great Find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

After a long driving day from Kansas City, we stumbled upon the Boulevard Inn in St. Joseph, MI. What a find! It's site across from the memorial park and overlooking the beach are ideal for those who like to walk a bit. The ambiance was wonderful, with lots of wood, brass, and glass. A classic upscale hotel with a nostalgic motif. We enjoyed dinner on the terrace overlooking the park, and slept soundly in our mini-suite room. Next day we walked the park and the beach before continuing our journey. We are so pleased to have discovered the Boulevard Inn. This is a great little hotel with a great staff!
