“Quiet nights sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We recently stayed at the fairfield on January 7th for just an overnight shopping trip. The hotel and their staff were very friendly and welcoming when we got there and our room was ready even though we were there a little early. We didn't make use of the breakfast, but the pool area was clean and the hot tub was nice and hot. There were plently of towels but was disappointed to see that they were no more than a hand towel size, a little difficult to dry off an adult body with. Our room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. Something to make note of, there is construction at exit you need to get off (Water street) and if you coming from the Canadian border you will need to get off at the exit before and take the detour (thanks to the directions of the front desk when I called ahead) The detour isn't bad. To get back to the border, the exit is open. I was told that they expected there to be construction until December 2012. I suggest calling the hotel directly before you go to just verify and detours. Very close to the Bob Evans and the Cracker Barrel; you could walk to either. Overall, well worth the price and will stay again.

Room Tip: There is highway construction at the exit, call hotel directly to check for detours.

“Met our Needs for Overnight Business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Several of us stayed at this hotel for the first time for a 2 night trip on business and things there were comfortable enough. Check-in and the hotel staff were very friendly and homemade cookies were there each night; definitely a small town’s touch.

The room itself was OK but I was surprised at no fridge or microwave, an older box model TV, and a Spartan look to it all, especially considering I ended up with a Jacuzzi in my room which was considered a premium. The mattress was very soft, almost like sleeping in a cloud and although I slept comfortably, I had a feeling if I got too close to the edge it would collapse and I would roll off. For someone who would need a firm mattress, this would not have worked for them. Pool area looked clean and there is a small snack bar for chips, soda, snacks, etc. to purchase.

The included breakfast (continental+ I would call it) worked well for me as a light eater but the room itself where served seemed crowded and sits right in the lobby. The hotel is located across the street from a Bob Evans and there is a liquor store as well. But if you want to have a true meal with cocktails and 4-star food, then you will need to get in the car and head downtown.

For a quick 1 or 2 night stay, this hotel was fine and I would use it again; however, for anything requiring a longer stay ( and we will be making future stays of longer duration with our new business there), I will be looking for something that has a little more with it.

“Down Home Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

We have stayed at this Fairfield Inn several times, mostly as a shopping getaway, or a relaxing "time-out", and have always found it to be clean, comfortable and affordable. Nancy checked us in efficiently and warmly, telling us to let her know if there was anything at all we needed. Our room was where we had requested, and with extra towels, as per our online reservation.

The bed was so comfy, and all the bedding and towels were fresh and plentiful. Extra towels were provided in the pool and hot tub area, so there is no need to bring your own or use up the ones from the room. Everything was very clean and functional. We appreciated having the free wi-fi with a good connection.

Breakfast was included, and there was a good selection of waffles, breakfast sandwiches, juices, muffins and fresh fruit. Robert at the front desk was very efficient at replenishing anything that was missing, and constantly cleaned the tables as new guests left and arrived. A thoughtful task that should be the norm at hotels, but often isn't! A fruit basket and hot drinks were available at all times in the lobby, and there was a coffee maker in the room if you didn't want to wander out. If you were lucky enough to go by the front desk at the right time, there were also fresh cookies available... peanut butter and oatmeal raisin. Great late night treat!

There is road construction going on in the area, so access is not always easy to and from I-94 and M-25. Robert was helpful in copying us a map of the area, and Nancy had offered to point out restaurants that were easily accessible. There is a Bob Evans right across the street, a liquor /variety store within walking distance, and a gas station in the same block that has very competitive pricing.

This stay, we decided to book into the hotel mid-week (retirees can do that!), and were pleased that we had made that decision. Weekends that we have stayed here are noisy and busy with hockey or football teams... great place to stay for them with the pool and hot tub, but not for a couple looking for a quiet getaway. This time we did it right, at the right hotel.

Room Tip: Book mid-week if you are able to do that.

“A disgusting weekend.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in mid Oct. 2011. First room we were given had no working dead bolt. Room looked like it had not been renovated since the 90's. Old television and well worn bedding. Moved to a so-called upgraded room. Merely consisted of microwave and fridge which is standard in most hotels today! Accidentally left an envelope on the bed, when we returned in late evening-room was not made up! Claimed could not touch bed due to personal items on bed. They never have a problem moving personal items around the sink area! Breakfast was disgusting. Meat consisted of pogos!! Manager referred to wieners on a stick as wieners wrapped in pancakes! What a joke! Cornmeal batter is their answer to pancakes. Manager failed to address all of our concerns until head office contacted her. Will never stay their again. Mattress was like a hammock.

Room Tip: Find a different hotel!

“Friendly and helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Stayed 2 nights for a "mom and daughter shopping weekend". Room and bathroom were a generous size and clean. Very friendly and helpful staff at the front desk. I hope that it will be much easier to get to this hotel from the Ambassador Bridge once the construction around it is completed.
