“Even given the limited options in Newberry, we'll probably stay elsewhere next time.”
We often stay at the various hotels within the Marriott chain, so naturally that is the comparison we make. This hotel is definitely not a Marriott. The rooms feel distinctly "downscale." Our bathroom had a shower. The shower enclosure felt very small when you are inside with the door shut. The shower head was low. I am 5 feet eight inches tall and the shower head was at my eye level, which is not altogether handy for washing your hair. The door into the bathroom looked like it was about 2/3 as wide as a normal door. So, the effect was that everything felt downsized. The room had a desk. The desk had no electric outlets (?!) so we're supposed to work with pencil, paper and abacus? With the various device chargers, we ended up unplugging the hairdryer and leaving the phones in the bathroom to charge. There was a nice mini refrigerator. The furniture is basic. The entire facility, hallways, lobbies, everywhere had a noticeable odor that I believe is either an air freshener or a scented cleaning product, probably designed to be pleasant. However, it was noticeable and not pleasant to us. Instead, it led me to wonder what the scent was covering up. It reminded me of dryer sheets. There are flat screen TVs with a very limited selection of cable channels. The TVs are name brand and have vibrant color, but I was left wondering what was wrong with the TV delivery system since the images on the TV were poor.
