Our stay at the Lake Country Inn couldn't have been better. Thank you, Hope and Mark, for a great stay.
We stayed in the red room, which was decorated beautifully in vibrant colors with a sleek, white four-posted bed and a small love seat; a walk-in, tiled shower and beautiful pedestal sink; a flat screen TV in our room; and adirondack chairs on the porch outside. Unlike the other rooms, the red room has its own private access in the back of the inn, so you have a bit more privacy. Inside, the bed was soft (I'm guessing a pillow top?), just how we like it, and the Ralph Lauren sheets were luxurious. My husband and I both had a great nights sleep both nights -- it was quiet, dark, and we were able to control our own room temperature.
Upon our arrival, the innkeeper, Hope, greeted us warmly and gave us all the information we needed to know -- from how to access the building after hours, how to contact her in case of an emergency, where she'd recommend eating, etc. She saw we had a bottle of wine with us and gave us a couple glasses and a corkscrew without us needing to ask. It's clear that she and her husband take a lot of pride in the property and love what they do. Their attention to details goes a long way.
Each morning, a modest but yummy continental breakfast was served, including baked goods from a local bakery, The Flour Shop. You can expect to see cereals, yogurt, granola and fruit too. Coffee was available around the clock.
You cannot beat the location of the inn; it's right downtown New Buffalo, across from Brewsters (yummy Italian with a great "Dinner for 2" special). While it's not right off the beach, I'd rather not be, since all of the properties right off the beach are also right next to the train tracks. The Lake Country Inn is right in the heart of everything but without all the noise; we walked to the beach both days of our visit without any trouble at all.
The only problem we faced was that we didn't get a strong enough wi-fi signal to get online and we weren't getting great data service on our phones, but we're not complaining: it gave us an excuse not to respond to work e-mails! If you are hoping to use their internet, I'm guessing the other rooms would have better signal strength since they're inside the actual inn.
If we're ever back in New Buffalo (and we hope we will be), we wouldn't think twice about staying at the Lake Country Inn again.
