“Wouldn't recommend, not as advertised.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

Very disappointed for the price, the photos on the booking websites are not true and must show the rooms on their debut, certainly not how they are now.
The chateau from the outside is beautiful but the inside is shabby, the bathroom is mouldy, some of the facilities claimed are not in the rooms or not working and generally it is looking a little tired.
I tried to persuade myself it was shabby chic but it isn't!
Other chateaux in the area offer a much nicer facility for the same price or less.
Btw, food is expensive - eat out, some nice restaurants in the surrounding villages.

“Beautiful setting, not good value though”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2011

This is a beautiful place in a wonderful setting but our overall experience was that of disappointment .

The room couldn't be faulted, but the bathroom was not great (perhaps not unusual in France so maybe forgivable?) . There was rubbish in the bins on the room when we arrived. Unforgivable in my book

The owner was entertaining friends the night we were there and as a result the starter and main courses of our meal were disappointing. The main and cheese course were excellent though.

We were lucky to be away during the April hot spell, so were delighted to be able to swim outside in the lovely pool.

We stay in country house hotels pretty regularly so have a fair idea of the standards to expect, and this place just fell short in a number of ways. I think we might have been able to forgive more of them if it wasn't for the fact that the overall cost was nearly double what we would expect to pay. I'm aware that the exchange rate isn't helping, but EUR 40 for a camp bed in the room for a 3yr old? EUR 4 for 50cl of mineral water?

Such a shame because we wanted to love the place but just felt let down when we left.

“Wonderful - we will never forget it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2011

We celebrated our Ruby wedding with our extended family (18 family members ranging from 18m to 60+yrs) and it was a truly memorable weekend. We had discovered the chateau quite by chance the previous year and we knew immediately that it would be the perfect location for our big celebration. Being such a large family, we took over the entire chateau, so we had the place to ourselves for the weekend. We were made so welcome and Mme R. put together a magnificent weekend programme for us, culminating with a superb gala dinner in their splendid dining room, tables decked with flowers and the family silver and of course, a mouth watering menu. We cannot wait to return and would recommend it to anyone.

“A beautiful house - but beware quality and price of the food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

We chose this for a one night stopover on our leisurely way from Brittany to the Dordogne. The house is beautiful, one has the run of various sitting rooms, the lovely gardens and the use of the heated outdoor pool. Our own room was very pleasant with a swish modern bathroom. We were also made very welcome by the owners.
However it transpired that they had only just returned from holiday, and we were the only guests - both of which may have had an impact on the quality of the food.
We were asked if we wanted to dine in or go to a restaurant. Not driving any further sounded like a good idea so we asked for the table d'hote. Only later did we find out we would be dining alone in a romantic/gloomy (depending on your point of view) candle-lit dining room. The meal was 4 courses: a salad with stuffed vine-leaves, so far so good, quaill with french beans - massively overcooked french beans; a 'selection' of three tiny pieces of cheese - no choice, a dessert that consisted of three pieces of shop-bought brownie sitting on top of cliced strawberries with a little pot of shop-bought custard. And coffee. Very disappointing, and at 48 Euroes each grossly overpriced. That didn't include the wine.
Breakfast was no better - the croissant and pain-au-chocolat were stale and warmed over and the bread was so stale and reheated that it exploded into crumbs in ones moth. The coffee and the (home made) yoghurt were good though.
So - our advice - enjoy the house and the gardens, but skip the catering. Following advice from earlier reviews we gave the mini-bar a wide berth too.
So, a 4 star place let down by the catering.

“FABULOUS!!!”

I've been here with my wife, for our honeymoon.
It just looks to be in a dream, the manor is fantastic with wonderful gardens and owners are very gentle.
We were also entertained by an owner's friend, Benoit, a man very pleasing and amusing.
Very high grade cuisine and excellent wine.
A place to stay!!!
