“Faulty Towers on Snow”

Opened in 2000 this hotel must have been going backwards from day one of its grand design.
You do need a helicopter to get there, because the rough walking path is heart stopping material and the wider track is only traversible by tractor.
A group of 8 persons, we arrived, on schedule at midday, and waited two hours for our lunch orders to be delivered, chicken was unnavailable.
We had to wear down jackets at all times inside the stone structure, although the bed rooms, heated by two bar electric heaters, were well appointed and clean. Hot water available for 2 hours a day as mentioned before.
Another party of 15 persons arrived on our day two, overstretching the sewage arrangements, resulting in a horrfific smell in the darkened hallways.
Our group will not be returning to this establishment and I would not recommend it to anyone. Better value to be found in a friendly Tea House in Jomsom.

“Hoiw did this hotel get here !!!”

In the village of Jomsom, up the hill from the main town, is the Jomsom Mountain Resort (not "retreat" as captioned above)

When you first arrive it looks like a World War 2 concrete bunker but don't be fooled - enter the front door and experience the Nepali greeting and you will fall in love with the place.

Its all stone built inside and the rooms are stone walled and floored (with carpets)- absolutely charming. The two room suites, where we stayed are particularly nice and are all fitted out with 4 star amenities - everything you need. A bit pricey at rack rates so negotiate !!

All power comes from solar panels and a genny so hot water is only available for a couple of hours a day once it heats up but as you will be out exploring every day, thats not a hardship.

Staff are friendly and attentive to a fault - Mr Badri runs an excellent hotel and I have now been back 4 times as I love it so much.

Don't expect a huge variation of food but let me tell you, they do a great job with what they have - try the hot table where you can put your legs under the heated table - marvellous after a long days cold walk. Ask the Chef for his chicken special - he conjures up some amazing things and there is no shortage of chicken, fortunately.

I want to tell people about this hotel on one hand but on the other I want to keep it to myself so it doesn't get spoiled - what to do !

“Wow! This was unexpectedly great!”

This is the only upscale hotel in Jomsom and we loved it. Including two of us, there were a grand total of 3 guests our first night and 4 the second! With 18 staff members, I don't know how they manage but they do and they treated us splendidly! We've had the very good fortune to have traveled all over the world and with giant Himalayan mountains right outside the window impeccable service, immensel silence, and an interesting hint of "The Shining, Nepalese Syle," this was definitely one of the most memorable places we're ever been -- we'll remember this when we're ninety. The ony drawback was a lack of heat (in mid-October) but the staff provided space heaters and hot water bottles for the beds at night so we were okay altho it was quite cold. The whole experience was really a trip! We were walk-ins and we bargained and got a very good rate for a suite. I'd go again in a flash!

Jomsom is one of the main stops on the Annapurna circuit and my guess is that it doesn't get any better than this for trekkers. They even have a pool but it was too cold to use. The food was terrific too. The staff was the best of the best.

  • Liked — Great views, great staff, great price.
  • Disliked — No central heat!
  • Tips/Secrets — This place is probably never full so you can bargain.
