“The Shinining must have been filmed here....”

We booked for 3 nights, but left after 2. We were the only guests other than a young family staying at this huge empty and neglected prison like fortress, making it very uncomfortable. Though the staff was accomodating, we couldn't get out of Jomson fast enough. The area is barren, with high winds and sand storms each afternoon. Much of the hotel was unfinished, hallways dark and scary, amenities nonexistent. Though the rooms were clean and comfortable, the extremely remote location, along with nothing to do. After 2 days of hiking, we couldn't get back to Pokara fast enough. We travelled India and Nepal 5 months, with many bizarre and fascinating accomodations, but this was the one we will always remember and never need to return to.

“Awesome view of Himalayas with outstanding service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2011

We landed at Jomsom airport and were shocked to find that we had been sent a customised tractor as a pick up vehicle. Further the driver kept driving past the small village and over to no-man's land. Till then people kept telling us we are to stay at the only 5 Star property in Jomsom, Nepal, and what we were going through was far from it.. only until we sighted the property.
Set atop the Himalayan ranges, with a beautiful view of the snow capped Nilgiri ranges of the Himalayas, the Jomsom Mountain Resort is a lovely place to stay in Jomsom. The staff are very friendly and helpful and this is a great place to rest your feet after the tiring trek to Muktinath.
The heating in the rooms is sufficient for summer travel, but might need to be better in other seasons. But the natural and rustic decor lends a laid back feel to the place.

“'Pie in the Sky' hotel accomodation !Jomsom itself”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2011

Jomsom itself is a hotel accommodation in 'thin air' at 3,200 metres altitude - and the Hotel another steep climb 200 feet. Huge stone construction in the middle of 'nowhere', the location is awesome - direct window view of the Nilgiri snow-peaks from our room. No lift - Reception staff helpful. We found poor room heating - and running hot water - just not available during our one day/night stay -en route and return to Muktinath. Its most unique vehicle for ''transfers'' to/from Airport has to be seen and experienced to be believed! A tractor with an attached Metal Sheet large wagon as its trailer - if you any orthopedic problems DO NOT sit in this vehicle. (See attached photo of the wagon.). The hotel is about the best that you can get in Jomsom I guess. So if I went there again, I suppose that's where I would stay,

“-DO NOT STAY HERE-”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

To start, the only reason why I didn't give this "retreat" a terrible rating is because I have seen worse. Admittedly their are no roaches that scatter when you turn on the bathroom light, though a few things were nearly as bad. My friend and I decided to have a dip in the heated pool...not recommended. Not only was it far from heated, but also the entire pool was lined with a layer of slimy moss; no doubt due to the fact that the water probably hadn't been cleaned for years, and it looked the part too. If your looking to check your email, have a hot shower, eat a good meal, relax in the sauna that they advertise or just to have a good experience, this is most definitely not the place for you; just go back down the brutal hill (oh, almost forgot, no shuttle service) and stay at one of the much better and cheaper tea houses.
The staff there is nearly non-existent; we had to walk around the hotel to find someone to ask to find the manager to come check us in; both being really unfriendly. The room was pretty clean (my bed had some dirt in it), except no hot water other than between 4-6PM, no heating other than a pathetic space heater; and there was a constant racket coming from the ceiling above us and in the hallway (despite not seeing another guest the whole time we were there!)
To sum it all up, this "luxury" hotel was built/owned by the royal family. When the Maoists massacred the royal family, this hotel obviously fell into the hands of lesser management, because since it was built in around 2000, it has gone nowhere but downhill. It seems that in order to support the staff and general amenities, the management has resorted to fire selling items from the hotel...sauna gone, fitness facility gone, internet gone, credit card capabilities gone, in-room phones/room service/concierge gone, paintings ripped off walls, light fixtures taken apart to save light bulbs and the furniture/drapes were taken out of the other rooms which we could see from our own.
Staying at this hotel was by far the worst part of our trip, being nearly traumatizing. In fact, you should just skip Jomsom altogether and eat some apples in Marpha.

It looks like a bunker in Afghanistan from outside, but once you enter inside it is just awesome like a 5 star hotel. You will not find a better hotel than this in Jomsom
