“'Pie in the Sky' hotel accomodation !Jomsom itself”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2011

Jomsom itself is a hotel accommodation in 'thin air' at 3,200 metres altitude - and the Hotel another steep climb 200 feet. Huge stone construction in the middle of 'nowhere', the location is awesome - direct window view of the Nilgiri snow-peaks from our room. No lift - Reception staff helpful. We found poor room heating - and running hot water - just not available during our one day/night stay -en route and return to Muktinath. Its most unique vehicle for ''transfers'' to/from Airport has to be seen and experienced to be believed! A tractor with an attached Metal Sheet large wagon as its trailer - if you any orthopedic problems DO NOT sit in this vehicle. (See attached photo of the wagon.). The hotel is about the best that you can get in Jomsom I guess. So if I went there again, I suppose that's where I would stay,

“-DO NOT STAY HERE-”

To start, the only reason why I didn't give this "retreat" a terrible rating is because I have seen worse. Admittedly their are no roaches that scatter when you turn on the bathroom light, though a few things were nearly as bad. My friend and I decided to have a dip in the heated pool...not recommended. Not only was it far from heated, but also the entire pool was lined with a layer of slimy moss; no doubt due to the fact that the water probably hadn't been cleaned for years, and it looked the part too. If your looking to check your email, have a hot shower, eat a good meal, relax in the sauna that they advertise or just to have a good experience, this is most definitely not the place for you; just go back down the brutal hill (oh, almost forgot, no shuttle service) and stay at one of the much better and cheaper tea houses.
The staff there is nearly non-existent; we had to walk around the hotel to find someone to ask to find the manager to come check us in; both being really unfriendly. The room was pretty clean (my bed had some dirt in it), except no hot water other than between 4-6PM, no heating other than a pathetic space heater; and there was a constant racket coming from the ceiling above us and in the hallway (despite not seeing another guest the whole time we were there!)
To sum it all up, this "luxury" hotel was built/owned by the royal family. When the Maoists massacred the royal family, this hotel obviously fell into the hands of lesser management, because since it was built in around 2000, it has gone nowhere but downhill. It seems that in order to support the staff and general amenities, the management has resorted to fire selling items from the hotel...sauna gone, fitness facility gone, internet gone, credit card capabilities gone, in-room phones/room service/concierge gone, paintings ripped off walls, light fixtures taken apart to save light bulbs and the furniture/drapes were taken out of the other rooms which we could see from our own.
Staying at this hotel was by far the worst part of our trip, being nearly traumatizing. In fact, you should just skip Jomsom altogether and eat some apples in Marpha.

“Excellent Stay in Jomsom”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2010

It looks like a bunker in Afghanistan from outside, but once you enter inside it is just awesome like a 5 star hotel. You will not find a better hotel than this in Jomsom

“Mixed feelings!!!”

We stayed at the Jomsom Mountain Resort in the May. It is advisable to book your room in Kathmandu or Pokhara because you will get a better deal. The internet rates are not updated and too high. The hotel is very very unique and though the place will always stay in my memories, I am not sure if I will visit again.

The hotel is all by itself on a on a height of about 2900 mtrs and about a 100 mtrs above the small township and airport.

We arrived at Jomsom airport in a small 20 odd seater ATR ( the flights only ply between 6am and 10am because of the harsh weather... Extreme wind after 11 am). We were welcomed at the airport by the hotel representive ( who we later noticed was the bell boy and doorman as well). We were ushered in a "tracto" (literally) to take us up the 100mtrs to our hotel After the bumpy ascent we finally reached our hotel. The hotel had just one other room occupied and about 6-7 hotel staff. My first impression was I want to get out of here. But the place grows on you. The rooms are literally made of stone - the walls, the furniture and all... But I have to mention that the cleanliness levels were impeccable. The linen towels and all. The bathroom came equipped with a tub and excellent fittings matching 5* standards. Housekeeping was done twice a day and he rooms were fairly insulated and equipped with a heater.

The food was allright quite pricey owing to the logistics and location of the place. But if u are staying there you don't have much choice the only other option is treking down 100 mtrs to town (nothing impressive in town either).

There are other hotel options in town but non of them were of any star standard. The only issue with the Mountain Resort is that its to isolated and secluded otherwise it is not a bad option. They also have some game rooms....pool, carrom and darts.

Jomsom. is a place to visit only if you mant to trek or if you want to visit the Muktinath Shrine. There is no other reason why you should make the effort to go there. The weather is extremely harsh owing to the strong winds.

At think this was my first and last visit to Jomsom

“Faulty Towers on Snow”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2010

Opened in 2000 this hotel must have been going backwards from day one of its grand design.
You do need a helicopter to get there, because the rough walking path is heart stopping material and the wider track is only traversible by tractor.
A group of 8 persons, we arrived, on schedule at midday, and waited two hours for our lunch orders to be delivered, chicken was unnavailable.
We had to wear down jackets at all times inside the stone structure, although the bed rooms, heated by two bar electric heaters, were well appointed and clean. Hot water available for 2 hours a day as mentioned before.
Another party of 15 persons arrived on our day two, overstretching the sewage arrangements, resulting in a horrfific smell in the darkened hallways.
Our group will not be returning to this establishment and I would not recommend it to anyone. Better value to be found in a friendly Tea House in Jomsom.
