First day, I stayed single room not square side. Next day I asked changing room to square side, so I was given 3 bed room square side without additional charge. Thank you.

I booked this with a friend, as we wanted to visit Bhaktapur late at night/early in the morning and not have the hassle of travelling from central Kathmandu.
It's in a great location, you walk straight out of the guest house onto the square and we had views from our room. It was great to just crawl out of bed early and watch the life in the square, without the usual mass of tourists,
The staff were also really helpful and friendly, booking with them was quick and simple and breakfast was good.
I just wish we'd stayed longer!

I've stayed at hundreds of guest houses over the years and this is truly one of my favorites. Though this time I stayed alone - as a tour group leader - I will bring back others in the future. Absolutely loved it. They had gas/fire water heaters for the showers, great food, wonderful service, decent princes and the location is second to absolutely none. Incidentally - SGH2 was brand new. The amenities and updated decor make up for the fact that it is more removed from the main square than SGH1. Note to take earplugs if at SGH1. The location is superb, but that means you'll hear the temple bells REALLY early in the morning. Was perfect for me as I wanted to awaken early for photographs.

It was my intention to stay at Shiva Guesthouse 2 for 3 or 4 nights and I ended up staying for 10! My room {Room 302} was super-comfortable and had a big bed and a small bed; because I was traveling solo I just put all my things on the small bed and slept in the big one and it was comfortable and warm, plenty of blankets, etc..... Shiva will always do their best to fulfill every request and the employee's are all so nice and friendly. I can't comment on the rooms at Shiva 1 because I didn't see them, but the restaurant on the ground floor there is excellent and has great variety and only a 5 -minute walk from Shiva 2.
Great location only 2 minute walk from the entrance to Durbar Square, but always quiet and private because the location is just outside the square. If the electricity goes out [as is common all over Nepal] they will always turn on their generator so there is never a time when you are without power and the WIFI also works great most of the day and always in the evening. Some of the time I was there I was literally the ONLY guest staying there but they still turned on the generator to make sure I was comfortable and had electric and hot water; again, just excellent service. I also had a rented motorcycle and it was safe and secure in their parking lot at all times.
One more thing; I had a minor slip-and-fall accident in the shower on my 3rd day [my fault] and needed some medical attention. One of the hotel workers named Bimal was so courteous and attentive and worried for me that he literally walked me up to the local hospital and stayed with me the whole time and translated for me while they fixed me up. Just one more example of how the people at Shiva go the extra mile to help make their guests comfortable. I took he and his lovely wife Kamala to dinner a few days later and 2 nicer young Nepali people you will never meet.
I would highly recommend Shiva Guesthouse 2! Fantastic place and it made my stay in one of the most beautiful cities in the world even better.
