“Great Lodge with wonderful staff and fantastic food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

This was probably the best lodge we stayed at in Namibia. The service was excellent. The bungalows were clean and nicely decorated. Because the "family bungalow" we had booked was meant for 2adults and 1kid, and we were going to put 3 adults there, they decided to give us an extra bungalow for free. By the way: the "family bungalow" is great! It has one double bed, a big sofa that is comfortable for sleeping, a small tower with another sofa, its own pavillion with deckchairs, and an outside shower in case you get too hot.
The pool was clean – although it was the rainy season, which messes with the pool water.
The food was excellent and varied. The host is very proud of the wine cellar and helped us choose. For lunch we just went up to reception and they made anything we wanted.
Samuel, who drove us around the Etosha park, was smart, funny and extremely patient with us.
Some of the serving staff were still being trained, which amused my parents-in-law but did not deter from the experience.
This lodge has its own little nature trail and the folder with the explanations for all the cool things you can see is handed out at the reception.
Because the Lodge is in a forest there are plenty of animals to see and on our way to dinner we surprised some antelope in front of our bungalow.
They have a laptop in the common area for general use (and it's free). As anywhere in Namibia, the connection is a little slow, so uploading pictures should be avoided.
Definitely an enjoyable stay.

“Comfortable place in beautiful surroundings.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2010

It was just an overnight stay after Etosha park. Nevertheless, the place is very beautiful. Rooms are in separate wooden houses with thatched roofs. It was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Mosquito nets are provided. There are trees all over the place and walking back to the room feels a bit like a walk in the forest. There is a nice open bar. Dinner is served on the terrace at the pool, with a little waterhole in the background. Food was nice, of the normal local game prepared western style variety. Staff was friendly and the singing performance before dinner was a nice add on. The only drawback was the number of insects in the room. Seemingly you could not lock them out. However this may just be a local feature.

“Lovely lodge with game literally on your doorstep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

Stayed for 3 nights at this lodge in Sep 2010, with husband. First a niggle that dogged us throughout our Namibia holiday - no double beds! I guess you are meant to be more interested in the wildlife than in snuggling up with your significant other, but of the 10 hotels on our hols, only 4 had double, rather than twin beds, and of those 4, 3 were "town" hotels. Anyway....not quite what you might expect if you're on honeymoon - which we weren't. Never mind, Etosha Aoba is a lovely lodge - small, welcoming, personal service, nicely done, rustic rooms and game roaming through camp (some magnificent kudu, in particular, and my husband found a pair of dik diks sleeping under the loungers outside our room!). We had some wonderful game viewing in Etosha and the nice thing is that this lodge is about as close as you can be to the Von Lindequist Gate (although it's still a 13km drive from the gate, to the actual camp). We did go on a sundowner drive from the lodge, inside their own (still very large) game area with a good, friendly, and informative guide - reasonably priced and good fun. The food was fine considering the location, although the fact we were eating outside on coolish breezy evenings on cold plates did mean that it was all rather cold and all the meat was well done - which to this lover of rare steak seemed rather a waste of good game. Even our guide was suggesting, which seemed eminently sensible, that when guests check in they should be asked how they like their meat cooked, which shouldn't be too hard for the kitchen to arrange (there are only 10 rooms/20 people at any one time). Can the lodge please take note? I would be happy to go back there.
