“A big disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

This lodge, with its excellent location in an old fort at the Eastern end of Etosha, is run by the same group as Okaukejo Resort located in West Etosha and should have received a much better rating.

Unfortunately, there is no similarity to Okaukejo and the whole place was a great disappointment. The management, if on site, were totally invisible with the result that the staff, whilst pleasant enough, were in a world of their own.

The absolute disgrace was the fetid green swimming pool covered in insect larvae. When we came to check out and get our key deposit back, we finally found someone who admitted that they had run out of "the chemical" but who did not know why the circulation pump was not switched on.

The good news is that the ramparts are an excellent place to enjoy a sundowner and the restaurant serves reasonable food.

The waterhole needs a rethink as its layout is not condusive to attracting game into viewing range.

“A great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

We were there in early December so it was very quiet. A wonderful very friendly and helpful stall. Great mammal and bird viewing in the area.

Room Tip: The bush chalets are best.

“Recommend this Campsite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

The campsite is located close to the Von Lindequist Gate in Etosha National Park. We had a very good grass site at a less popular camp ground (compared to Okaukuejo). The amenities were clean & there is a lovely pool area. The restaurants & bar are located in the Old Fort.
There is also a floodlit waterhole viewing area from the top of the Old Fort. There is also a second and closer waterhole viewing area.

“A bit of a disappointment !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

We stayed in another bush chalet but this one did not allow any self-catering which means you have to eat the buffet .You have to park your car in the designated area and make use of a porter to transport your luggage to your chalet. The chalets are - yet again - open-plan bedroom and bathroom but are luxurious! The water hole offered nothing but birds, but that was probably due to the huge fire which occurred about a month ago.We did not really like the boardwalks which guide every step one has to make-feels a bit rigid and structured to not be able to walk on the grass. The food was delicious ! I much preferred Okaukuejo but Namutoni has its own charm with the fort etc.The staff was very friendly there, however,by far the friendliest in the whole park!

“A very pleasant experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

This hotel situated in a colonial German fort provides very stylish and comfortable rooms, with air conditioning that works, unlike many other hotels we stayed in in Namibia. The grounds are pleasant and there a interesting waterhole with a viewing platform. The buffet food was adequate. We had a very pleasant stay
