My partner and me have spent 3 nights at the Etosha Safari Lodge (not the campsite) in October 2011. It is not quite common to stay 3 nights within one and the same lodge at Etosha therefore we really experiences personalized service and very attentive staff.
General:
The Etosha Safari Lodge is situated approx. 10 km from the Andersson entrance gate to Etosha. The Lodge has been built upon a hill and enables wonderful views accross the bush.
Accomodation is within little chalets which are built along the hillside of the area. Our chalet was pretty close to the main lodge (where the restaurant and reception is located) and we can imagine that those who have been in other rooms very a little bit disappointed- some rooms have been more far than ours and it is quite a distance to walk to the restaurant.
One who travels to Etosha must remember that also guided bus tours are on their way. So one night we had a complete bus of Germans at the lodge which can be a little but annoying. But if you want more privacy you have to pay a way higher price in accomodation and go for another lodge. We can understand that a lodge which so many rooms can not say "no" to bus tours even if individual tourists are annoyed by that.
Rooms:
The rooms are very private (each party has a room for itself) spacious and absolutely clean. The bed is large and has a mosquito net above (which is definately required). The furniture is all reptty new (is not used up or anything like that). The bathroom is en-suite and truly spacious. You will find an open shower area. The toilets are separated of course in your chalet.
The only thing we have missed were 2 chairs and a small table on our terrace. Everything else was outstanding concerning the chalet.
Restaurant:
The restaurant is situated in the main lodge on top of the hill. There is a fantastic sundowner deck which allows having a look at the dramatic sunsets of Namibia (believe me they are great!) Breakfast is totally OK, not outstanding. You will find cold meats and cheese, toast, fresh fruit and cereal. Sometimes freshly baked croissants and muffins.
Dinner is very tasty - a soup upfront will be served to your table. Afterwards you can choose from a salad buffet and a buffet for 3 main courses (one "normal meat", a choice of game (e.g. Kudu, Springbok, Ostrich etc.) and a lasagne or similar. Sidedishs like potatoes, vegetables, noodles etc. are of course also avaiable. Dessert will also be brought to your table.
The wine assortment was suprisingly big - you can choose from a wide variety of mainly South African wines. Service personnel was by the way trained excellent.
Activities:
we have booked a half day game drive to especially focus on lions and the rhino. Our guide made all of that happen!! That was great. We would recommend doing a game drive at least once to see those animals which are hard to find. The guides communicate via phone/GPS and know at which times the animals usually are at which waterhole. As we have been to the park in the morning hours we have paid our entrance fee already. What we haven't expected but happened was that the entrance price was deducted from our overall game drive price!! Great (we didn't want to start the discussion therefore we were positively surprised).
In the very end the guys from the lodge helped us to change our tired which was damaged! Also good service.
In general I can warmly recommend the lodge to anybody travelling there. As a resume we would stay at least one night within the park as you can then go on a night game drive etc. This is the only drawback of the lodge I would ay.
Room Tip: Would check to get a room close to the main lodge in order to avoid long walks
