Old bank building that has been renovated to an inn. Nicely done. Lots of steps. No elevator. Even inside the individual rooms there are steps from bathroom to bedroom, probably to allow for the plumbing. This isn't necessarily a bad thing and I did know it in advance. Each room is decorated differently which adds to the charm. The suites are superior, for size and views, although I thought it a bit strange that in the sitting area with fireplace, there was not a television. The TV is located in the bedroom. Location is perfect. Center of Manistee. Warning - there is nothing going on in Manistee during the winter. Many closed storefronts.
My biggest complaint was lack of staff. I checked in at usual time, between 3 and 4:00 in the afternoon. There was a note on the desk that if help was needed to go below to the pub (inconvenient if you are hauling luggage with you). The key was handed off to me and I trekked up to the 4th floor Ramsdell Suite alone. I'm ok with this too. What I didn't like was that I was told parking on the side street by the entrance was permissible but during the winter you were only allowed to park on one side and it changed from day to day AND the owner/hostess wasn't sure which side it was allowed on that day. There was another parking lot up the street (on a hill with slippery sidewalk). At night, there was no one on staff, so if you had a need or emergency, you are on your own. In the morning, staff came at 10:00 am. What happens if you have to check out before then?? No instructions were given. No continental breakfast, unless you think Nutrigrain bars and ( many days) old muffins count.
Winter rates are reduced. If I had paid full price I would have felt very disappointed.
