“Charming historical building.”

Old bank building that has been renovated to an inn. Nicely done. Lots of steps. No elevator. Even inside the individual rooms there are steps from bathroom to bedroom, probably to allow for the plumbing. This isn't necessarily a bad thing and I did know it in advance. Each room is decorated differently which adds to the charm. The suites are superior, for size and views, although I thought it a bit strange that in the sitting area with fireplace, there was not a television. The TV is located in the bedroom. Location is perfect. Center of Manistee. Warning - there is nothing going on in Manistee during the winter. Many closed storefronts.
My biggest complaint was lack of staff. I checked in at usual time, between 3 and 4:00 in the afternoon. There was a note on the desk that if help was needed to go below to the pub (inconvenient if you are hauling luggage with you). The key was handed off to me and I trekked up to the 4th floor Ramsdell Suite alone. I'm ok with this too. What I didn't like was that I was told parking on the side street by the entrance was permissible but during the winter you were only allowed to park on one side and it changed from day to day AND the owner/hostess wasn't sure which side it was allowed on that day. There was another parking lot up the street (on a hill with slippery sidewalk). At night, there was no one on staff, so if you had a need or emergency, you are on your own. In the morning, staff came at 10:00 am. What happens if you have to check out before then?? No instructions were given. No continental breakfast, unless you think Nutrigrain bars and ( many days) old muffins count.
Winter rates are reduced. If I had paid full price I would have felt very disappointed.

Room Tip: Suites are larger, better views, better lighting.

“Hoped for better”

This hotel is over priced for it's location. Manistee is so small that a cab ride to a less costly hotel is far more sensible. I love Manistee, but was disappointed by this unique hotel. Just my two cents, clearly in contrast to many.

“Back in Time with all the modern conveniences”

My wife and I and our friend from Austin, Texas spent a night at The Ramsdell Inn August 2011. We had the T.J. Ramsdell suite on the fourth floor and Kevin had The Jefferson room down the hall. Beautiful 130ish year old building, tastefully renovated, still retains its historic charm. There are only ten rooms, all different and unique. The lobby is as it was in the 1880s? when it was the bank. Cool place, very romantic. We enjoyed very much. Manistee in the summer is great for walking, recreating. Beautiful, Thanks.

“Lap of Luxury on a Poor Man's Income”

Stayed in the Ramsdell Suite located on the top most 4th floor of the hotel. Luxurious furnishings, cozy, comfortable. Room includes DVD & CD player, large TV, fireplace, fridge. This was our 2nd visit in less than 4 months. The ambiance is fantastic for a romantic getaway. The staff are exceptionally helpful and courteous. Includes a very nice continental breakfast, casino shuttle, attached bistro type restaurant located on bottom floor. The hotel was renovated to the exact specifications of the original 1891. Subsequently, there are not any elevators. Sedate and quiet. A gem!!

Room Tip: Call a few months in advance of stay.

“Romantic Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

My boyfriend surprised me with a stay at the Ramsdell for the weekend of Valentine's Day. It was a beautiful historic inn. The staff was helpful and very attentive. I would definitely recommend this to other travelers. Great deals in the off season (1/2 price!) but probably worth the money for the downtown location in the Summer.
