Ok, before you look at this hotel, pause a moment...and recalibrate your expectations to a hotel room you paid $50 for. Be realistic. Ok, now that you've done that, read on. My husband and I spent one night in a room with two queen beds and a jacuzzi tub in September 2011. We started off our vacation in Traverse City and stopped in Ludington on our way back home. I didn't book a hotel in Ludington until the night before and did this largely because I was debating on whether to book this hotel based on the reviews I found on various websites. The night before the stay, after a few days of walking around and vacationing, I decided that a jacuzzi sounded really nice and for $50, I was willing to give it a shot.
To start off, the service was decent. The same girl who checked us in also checked us out. She was polite and professional. She's the only contact we had with the staff and I'm not so sure she wasn't the only person working - she was checking guests in and out, answering phones, taking care of breakfast... While I can't complain, I also can't much comment on the service beyond this. We didn't need anything out of the ordinary and didn't come into contact with any other staff members - though according to some other reviews, this in itself might be something.
Now the room. The room was on the smaller side but was pretty clean and as someone else said, had high ceilings. It was sparcely furnished/decorated and what I would call utilitarian. Basic, but it had everything we needed for a night. The bed was a bit on the soft side and seemed like it might have been on the older side but wasn't uncomfortable. The walls did not seem exceptionally thin as other reviewers indicated. We could hear someone in the other room the couple times they coughed but couldn't hear them talking or hear their TV or anything like that. No trouble sleeping at all.
The jacuzzi, while shown in the photos on the website as a tub outside the bathroom, was actually the tub in the bathroom - a square whirlpool tub with a jet in each corner. Not exactly what I was envisioning. Two people cannot stretch out in this, though two can fit fairly comfortably. But if you're looking for one with actual seats/benches for each person, keep looking.
A point on the downside - towels were definitely older and needed to be replaced - they were frayed at the edges and had strings hanging off them. This seemed odd to me, though, since everything else in the room was in decent shape.
The included continental breakfast was your standard fare. Cereal, english muffins, donuts, coffee, juice and a waffle maker. Nothing special but ok.
All in all, this room was an average, basic room. I can't complain about much but besides the price, there also isn't a lot to recommend it. If you're looking for a clean, cheap place to stay for a night, this would be ok. If you're looking for a place with "extras" or something nicer for your stay, keep looking.
