Me and my wife stayed at the Fairfield Inn Frankenmuth on November 18 - 19, 2011. This was my first time to Frankenmuth, and the wife's second time from when she was younger. Overall, we loved going together as a couple to the city and we wished we could've had a full day and a half to spend there, but 1 day sufficed.
The hotel itself is somewhat of a standard Fairfield by Marriott that you would see anywhere in the U.S., as we originally trying staying at the Springhill Suites in Frankenmuth but it was sold out.
We stayed in a King Whirlpool Suite which was about 5 dollars more than a standard King Suite at Springhill which is literally right down the road. The total cost for a "weekend rate" stay (1 night friday night) with taxes and all this occupancy tax nonsense came out to $182 booked directly through the Marriott site. We didn't have a chance to really shop it on orbitz/travelocity/etc..as this was a spur of the moment last minute getaway.
Great things about the hotel:
1. Rooms were a little more modernized, with a flat screen, sitting area, and a pretty good sized 2 person whirlpool tub which was nice.
2. The hotel itself is within absolute awesome walking distance of everything, except for bronner's which could be a little of a hike on a super cold, or super hot day!
3. A BIG PLUS was that it was DIRECTLY across the street from the Frankenmuth Brewery which had awesome beers, and a really good food selection!
4. The morning breakfast is from 6-10 a.m., and its your typical continental with juices, yogurts, cereals, milk, bagels, bread for toast, jams/jellies, cream cheese, as well as jimmy dean egg/sausage sandwiches to heat up in the microwave, and also waffles that you were able to make. The 2 attendants were constantly replenishing, and cleaning up the eating area and WERE SUPER FRIENDLY. Those two definitely made our stay really quite nice with their service, smiles, and hospitality.
Room for improvement:
1. Cleanliness of rooms were a tad bit off, especially the glob of hair that came out from the whirlpool tub, and a little mold in the shower..nothing that derailed our stay as we really enjoyed Frankenmuth.
Overall:
We will definitely be back to Frankenmuth as its a delightful city which is such an easy to get to escape for us on a random spur of the moment weekend. We will try the Merv Herzog (spelling) hotel next time for a spring/summer stay as they had balconies which I think in the rear overlooked the river, as well as to have a stay at the Springhill Suites to do a compare and contrast to the Fairfield. However, if we had to, we would definitley choose the Fairfield again, but only as a 2nd or 3rd option.
Cheers!
